Re: Sony Alpha a850 Complete Instruction Manual Download

Well, I wonder how many people would now pay additional 1K$ to get the better viewfinder and 5fps. For landscape shooters it seems the 850 would be no worse than the 900, and I really can't see the point here. Perhaps don's right about the "consumer electronics" thinking.

Well, the total mark is quite similar to the D300.

not all that surprising, with V.4 - but there is still some low-light gap.

Bakubu, you're quite right.

If not for the fact both the reviews for the sigma were better AND cost me 100-something dollars LESS than the tamron, I would have surely went for the tamron. The only thing I don't like about the sigma is it's weight, so getting even heavier lens is out of the question.

Thanks, Kevin!

My problem with the new Sigma is that it would be probably much heavier than the current one. As a backpacking enthusiasit, I try to keep my kit as light as possible. I'm usually carrying my A700 with two lenses - the sigma and a Zeiss 16-80, which I'm thinking of replacing by a 18-250 for light-and...

My wedding, in 2003,

Was shot by a photographer with three cameras - 2 Nikon F100's loaded with Fuji films, from a portrait 160 to a superia 1600, and one Nikon D100, 6mp. the prints, through a proffesional lab with lots of experience both in film and in digital, were MUCH beter from the films. I did some comparisons my...

I have the 10-20 and Like it very much.

It's not a Zeiss, but it's very good indeed, if you don't use it for architecture. Here's an example I've took on a backpacking trip last week, A700@ ISO 100, 16 minutes@ F/10, on a Gorillapod SLRZoom mini tripod. I think even at this size one could see some of the strengths and limitations of the l...

My solution was to use the filters WITHOUT the holder.

I've once read that recommendation in Tim Fitzharis' column in Popular photography, tried it and it works: I attach the filters with Gaffer tape, which leaves no mark. No vignetting at all even on my Sigma 10-20. (I'm using now Singh-Ray's. They seem better and less scratch-prone than the cockin, bu...

It's good and It's bad.

On the one hand, it would be better, I think, if camera developments rate are slowed down a bit; No need to change every 18 months (altough I've been waiting for an A800 or a lower full-frame model).
But I've been wanting more lenses!

Interesting question indeed.

I remember reading something about the STF being impossible to have screw-mount focusing for some reason. But maybe an SSM STF lens, with In-lens motor and no screw, is possible?

Anything to offer A700 IQ (or higher) with LV and faster focusing will be a great camera. Now, I should only win the lottery...

Seems I had luck.

No mechanical problems at all, very sharp, focuses well. I guess Mr. Kimka or whatever is his name did a good QC job that Day. BTW, I now use Sigma EX UV filter. I've found out that it does not vignette as far as I can see, It's good quality and it is much thinner than my standard Hoya HMC which it ...

Tamron 70-200/2.8 with 1.4 TC or Sony 70-300?

Hi! I'm wanting to buy a midrange zoom to use on my A700 and on a future Full-frame, and I'm wondering which one of those is better. The tamron is very tempting, as it is 2.8 and with a 1.4TC It's basically a 100-280 f/4 lens - not bad at all. The image quality w/o TC is said to be excellent on full...

And I'll also say,

That unfortunately you sound here like Sony's Marketing Division. And while I like my A700 quite a bit and eagrly wait for the A800 or the like, I'll be very surprised if other camera companies will leave the stage clear and do nothing. One can like his gear without trying to make any other maker in...

Sony 50/1.4 Review on DPreview.

Couple of suprising conclusions: 1. On APS, it's leading the 50mm bunch in term of sharpness - even better than the Sigma 50. 2. On full-frame it's the other way around - the corner sharpness makes the Sigma much better performer. 3. Most surprisingly - the Sony 50/1.4 had higher resolution and CA w...
