Re: A question on Optical Flash trigger

My guess would be that when using the Sony flash in wireless mode that the flash control from camera to flash is triggering the other flash before the shutter opens. If so, you need either an optical trigger which can be taught or programmed to ignore the wireless optical flash control, or use a PC ...

Re: Triggering strobe flash wirelessly

I don't think I am searching for the right info on Google. Maybe I can get some pointers here. Is there a way I can trigger external flash (umbrellas/softboxes) with the a350 built-in wireless transmitter? IOW, are there stobe lights that have receivers built-in that are compatible with the a350 wi...

Re: Focus problems with SAL 50mm f1.4 (on A350)

I have carried out some focussing experiments. I find that at distances between one and two metres (all I've tested) and in good daylight that I get very consistent repeatable focussing. At f5.6 and wider the sharpest DoF area lies a few cm past the the nominal focus point, e.g. if focussing on a fr...

Focus problems with SAL 50mm f1.4 (on A350)

I thought at first this lens was naturally rather soft at apertures wider than f2.8m but I've discovered that was mostly inaccurate focus. In my testing so far I get the impression that the central focus point is more accurate than the selectable edge ones. It also seems to be the case that AF on th...

Re: QM2

Yes great idea, will have to wait until I have won the lottery though. 8) By sheer coincidence, today I just sold a panoramic photo I took of the QE2 (not the QM2) when she was visiting the Firth of Forth last year. I used the Sony A100 and the 80-200 G with 3 frames stitched to get a high resoluti...

Re: Venus occultation

I'm surprised there isn't more detail in those 300mm moon images on an A900. This is what I got in a shot on a A350 with the SAL 18-250mm zoom at 250mm at f6.3, 1/320th sec, using ISO 800 in slightly hazy twilight (which I darkened to black in processing). Obviously I have a bit more zoom with 250mm...

Re: what do people use instead of the kit lens on a crop camera?

The Sony 18-250mm is a good general purpose one-zoom-for-everything lens. It's a bit soft at both zoom extremes, but still much better quality than any P&S with the same kind of zoom range, and when kept off the extremes of zoom and stopped down to f8 is sharp enough to exploit a 14MP sensor.

Re: which software

I have not used PTLens in years, but some here may use it alot. I don't know how well it will work for you, but what I can tell you is that it will run in PS Elements straight up, and the author does offer a free trial download. http://epaperpress.com/ptlens/" onclick="window.open(this.hr...

Re: PP and sharpening/micro contrast

I often tilt my images a little using Picasa, and sometimes I tilt them and alter the perspective using PTLens, which is a much more complex kind of image transformation and remapping. I wanted to know how much image detailed resolution was lost in whatever internal pixel adjustments went on behind ...

Re: eBay Minolta FS-1100 'clones'

I have an A350 and one of those cheap hot shoe converters which looks like a proper four pin converter but only two are connected through. I'm still able to use it with my cheap Hong Kong radio flash trigger. The A350 sends the flash firing signal even if it thinks no flash is fitted. But I'm propos...

Re: Red Squirrels

The reds hibernate and the greys don't. So the reds are safe when the climate is too cold in the winter for the greys, although the warming winters are allowing them to move further north in Scotland.

Re: ca. 1975 Rokkor lenses

Minolta once offered the 2× M/A Converter-S and 2× M/A Converter-L which basically were variants of the well-known tele converters MD 300-S and MD 300-L---same glass inside but without any aperture couplings and with A bayonet mounts at their rear ends. Both have focal-length factors of 2×; the 'S'...

Re: A700 V4 available (officially!)

So what do you believe Marc Weir meant when he said "A700 v.4 and more ?? Was it IDS 3? Or do they have something else up their sleeves? Well, too bad IDS 3 is not available for Mac yet. Cheers Jonathan IDS 3 is not available for Windows 2000 Pro either (the Install Wizard gives up saying it's...

Re: Sigma 10-20 Questions

I just bought me a Sigma 10-20 and have a few questions. I've noticed that there is light fall off on the edges. Is this normal? How does one capture a picture and have everything look evenly lit? It's the first lens I've had which sometimes shows annoying vignetting. That may be because it's the w...
