Love this last shot. It has a real ''other worldliness" and is well executed in every sense.

Re: Birds 2013
Amazing shot of the raptor! A winner for sure. If I were pushed towards any criticism I'd say a little more space to the right and bottom would give this bird some space to 'move into' and give a greater power to the shot.
A beautiful bird and a well executed shot.

And so it should be - as long as the compromises are part of the learning process ::Dsury wrote:Pat,
I will add one more line to your friend's quote about photography. In addition to it being a series of
compromises, it is also a series of learning opportunities.

Love the funny face! You can embarass her when she's older ;) And nice 'serious' portraits, yous twos! Another of my Grandson - a sneaky shot when he was looking at Granddad as he's started to know when the camera is around....... http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8545/8695864370_c1cd7e8367_o.jpg Pat

Re: Macro in the Garden
Pat, Would using extension tubes on a 90mm get you closer? In your view, how much of a degradation that would be, compared to say a 60mm macro? I do have a Vivitar 90mm f/2.5 MD mount Macro and a Tamron 60f2.8 MA mount macro hence my question. With best regards, Sury Suri - for insects outdoors I w...

Some top notch images here! The galahs image reminds me of a beautiful Japanese painting. These are, again, all from my garden. Re: Macro in the Garden
Omega - did you use flash on these as the lighting seems quite harsh? Pat. Sorry if you think I was hijacking your thread. I had no idea it was intended as a personal thread, maybe the title 'Macro in the Garden' rather than 'Macro in my Garden' lead me astray. As for flash, yes. But various forms....

Re: Macro in the Garden
I'm not entirely sure how this forum works - is it usual for others just to add their own images to your thread instead of starting their own? This is often termed as 'hijacking' but if this is usually the case here I'm happy to start this as an 'open thread' for anyone's Macro images. :) Perhaps I,...

Re: Macro in the Garden
Thankyou for the kind comments. Today is sunny/showers – but it’s a bit windy. I had to hold the twigs still on the fly shots and I got a tad sodden lying down on the wet grass for the tadpoles. Did you use a polarising filter for the tadpoles? Yes, wind can make some subject tricky especially with ...

Re: Exhibit Portrait shots
Just caught up with all these - some cracking shots and some very moving stories, too. I really like the old B/W ones of Dr Harout! That last one looks like 'Cat Stevens' did! Sadly I've nothing good over 6 years old as I only got my first decent camera 6 1/2 years ago. This is a snapshot portrait o...

...........They were joined by another fly of the same variety. Who knows what was going on - perhaps one was a desirable female? One seemed to be chasing another about.
