Re: It took a long time ...

But there’s one thing I’m not totally convinced about, and that’s the clapper thingy; What occurred to me was, what if one is in a crowd taking the odd photo of some event and there was a spontaneous outbreak of applause right when you had a perfect shot lined up? The camera would most likely turn ...

Re: It took a long time ...

If it turns out that it costs Sony too much to license the Clapper technology then maybe they could make a belch activated on/off switch. If they could also use this while at the pub to take photos then that would be so cool! Rather than shoot on smile it would be shoot on belch . Actually, I expec...

Re: All future Alphas will be SLT!!!???

I personally think in the US market they need to be able to show some linkage to Minolta, (even today) so that the vast majority can identify with the Sony DSLR's, SLT's; I think many people still don't know that Sony cameras have the Minolta lens mount. For legacy users, yes. For new users, no. I ...

Re: Fairy tales about 'diffraction'

I ran some quick tests with my Minolta 100 f/2.8 and my A700. I started at f/2.8 and shot down to f/32. The subject was a filmy white curtain at about 10 ft. I still have to collect all the shots and up load them, and I will probably want to repeat using a tripod. The shots I took were focused manua...

Re: All future Alphas will be SLT!!!???

You're probably correct alphaomega, the A700 maybe didn't sell as well as it should have, it could have been something that made a real impact for Sony, had it been better managed, but there really should have been a follow up A700b version with a later sensor by now, instead of a plethora of consu...

Re: POLL: How much do you use the video function?

I can't vote because I don't have the cameras mentioned. But I have a bridge camera with video capability and I actually used video 3 times at one sitting - to make sure it worked. I've had it since 2006 and have never used video since. Video is not even on my list of features that I use to compare ...

Re: I want a pocket NEX

I believe that the NEX concept appeals mostly to the gadget collector and the equipment fan - the person who wants to buy accessories. (That includes DSLR users who see it as a useful second camera and as a platform for their old legacy lenses.) It also appeals to those who look at cameras as jewel...

Re: I want a pocket NEX

I feel that this is where Canikon will first "attack" the NEX concept. In the beginning the primary advertised advantage of the NEX was improved IQ/DOF control over micro 4/3s and compact digicams in a small package. Sony said that they targeted the high IQ P&S shooter. However, one is...

Re: A700 replacement 2011 25MP...

Yes it's a mystery allright why it's so difficult to put the ISO value in the viewfinder when lots of other stuff is in there, some of which I think are less important than the ISO value. I mean do we really need two anti shake warnings and readouts? the hand one and the little scale also? I first ...

Re: A700 replacement 2011 25MP...

I was out and shot a roll of film on the weekend and was thinking of this.. all this "feel it in the hand" stuff is really bunk. frankly if your holding a camera properly the grip side of the camer doesn't matter at all aside from buttom placement the weight and lens needs to be in your o...

Yeah Dennis there's a thing, if they had the modelling lamps in LED form you could leave em on as long as you liked and not waste any power to speak of. Hmm 15 degrees doesn't sound too bad, a lot better than straight up that's for sure, I guess it's a case of suck it and see. Well I guess Sony sol...

Re: Sony looks to change the world of DSLRs - Masashi 'Tiger

I looked at Amazon.com (Barry's link) and clicked on the Hot New Releases tab http://www.amazon.com/gp/new-releases/photo/3017941/ref=pd_ts_p_mte Here Nikon's D7000 is top followed by D60 and then A580 with the 18-55. A55 is listed at 16. It also has a later release date. I think that Sony have the...

Re: A700 replacement 2011 25MP...

Thanks I looked at the Sigma unit once Dennis, but doesn't the controller unit stand straight up, or did they release a new model? If the controller is verticle it's difficult to use the RA finder. Greg Greg, I have the Sigma, and it works well (although it broke my heart to buy a non-OEM accessory...

Re: Things I hate about a55 and its siblings

AFAIK the Leica M cameras use a very weak IR-filter on their sensor because of their compact built. They use optional lens IR-Filters when the IR light is distracting. How does it look like, when IR-light is captured in a normal colored photo (e.g. from a light bulb)? The Dimage 7 had a weak IR sen...
