Re: Today's announcement: what are you planning to get?

I cannot really understand why anyone would want to switch systems. I cannot contemplate replacing my body and all my lenses - I would need to win the lottery first. If you perceive the A99 does not give you much advantage over your A850 or 900 then keep the A900 and save all that money. Personally ...

Re: Repair options for 16-80Z lens

Kaled, I think that you may have 'started on a wrong footing' with this one. I can see why Sony wanted to look at your camera body. As both the aperture and focusing are affected is there something seriously wrong with the coupling between the lens and the camera? Has the lens damaged the camera or ...

Re: Speaking Stones

Dr. Harout, can you tell us anything more about the glass items? I am intruiged and would really like to know.
P.S. It's astronomy. Astrology is fortune telling using the stars. Don't worry, many British people get this wrong too.

Are these the best lenses in the world?

As far as I know you cannot get a Cooke lens in a A mount. Nonetheless it is fascinating to know that the lenses that were used to shoot many of the movies you have seen are hand made by Cooke (yes, that Cooke, or Taylor, Taylor and Hobson as they were also once known) in Leicester, England. Go to h...

All I can say is I wish they were mine. The little boy and the little girl pictures are winners for sure.

Re: New Portraits :)

For me the second one is the one. The thoughtful pose with the gaze directed away from the viewer and the beautiful light work together to make this a fine photograph. In my opinion the monochrome treatment works better too.

Re: Black and White

I liked all these pictures. The thing about black and white is that it is a step away from the literal. It simplifies. Colour often works against you unless you are lucky. The thing is, when you think about it, what we are trying to do is to present what we see, not what the camera sees. Always take...

Re: Speaking Stones

Apologies for being away from the forum for a while. I was not aware of this site, so thanks for the pictures. I have been interested in the stone rows and circles in Britain and Ireland for years now. There are holed stones in Cornwall. I will see if I can find my old (film) pics of these so that y...

Re: Repair options for 16-80Z lens

Apologies for being away from the forum for a few days. I recently seriously damaged my 16-80 by falling on it. I sent it off to the UK repair centre in Pencoed. They replaced the 'GP1 moving barrel block" and the "friction sheet E". They charged me £134 plus V.A.T. which I I thought ...

I think that this is a very creative shot. The pose is most unusual. She must have had some faith in you to agree to do it but I bet she is pleased with the outcome.

Thanks for showing us this. I love real engineering. The amazing thing is that this thing is seaworthy. The biggest catamaran inn the world? It must have been an exciting find.

Re: Toronto Dawn

Pictures of sunrises or sunsets have to be exceptional to work.....and this is. It would be a rare day in the UK when the atmosphere was clear enough to get something like this at nearly 17 miles.

Re: La Palma 2012

Nice shots. It looks like you had a great time. The rock paintings are remarkably similar to a type of 'cup and ring' mark found on rocks in Britain. I find this intriguing. The maze like spiral of the lower mark seems to be a universal symbol of some kind.

Yes, thanks Birma. Now I know I have a chance with my 16-80. Sorry about the late reply. I have been diverted by life again!

Re: La Palma 2012

The first shot gives a feeling of being on the edge of the world. If it wasn't for the trees the second and third shots could pass for the surface of Mars. I am interested to know what lens, aperture and time were used for the milky way. We are so light polluted where I am that the kids now don't kn...
