Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings
They should have started out with APS-C cropped not 4/3, or FF using the old SLR mount

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings
I agree with your sentiments about SLT, Sony neglected A mount and failed to carry out decent promotions on the system, They also got a so so press re the SLT mirror which didn't do Sony any favours. I looked at E mount for a while, the basic budget end of the lens range were way below par optically...

Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm
A good old DSLR from any of the makers is a tried and tested system and is still worth a serious look as an alternative to mirrorless. People like Canikon are hoping mirrorless will be the new norm, they have a long way to go to convince me of that, when a mirrorless replaces a DSLR of similar spec,...

Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm
Just an addition to my last post, I've often pondered, should I forget 'small' and go back to normal, normal being DSLR, or is small going to be the new normal. My bridge camera comes into the equation being DSLR size. However, although my A58 is a keeper for nostalgia, it would be another make not ...

Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm
They are all alienating photographers into not making expensive purchases any more, Its a shrinking market whatever you use, and price hikes will not rescue them. The M series has sold well globally and I doubt Canon will abandon a concept that has and still does quite well, despite the lens choice,...

Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm
Thanks for your input on my question, I'm inclined to agree with you re APS-C Cropped for a MILC, I have a Canon M5 and its nice to hold and use with great Jpegs, I stuck a Canon EFS 15-85 via supplied adapter to try out, Razor sharp pics but boy it weighs a ton, defeats the object of MILC My local ...

Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm
Hypothetical question, Staying with CSC, and you are starting out, what brand would you chose, Olympus, Canon M, Panasonic, Nikon Z 50, Fuji Also what would you prefer APS-C or M/4/3 in a CSC. I guess body cost and lens availability and costs for each brand must be a factor in choice Having said tha...

Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm
I know that Nikon were switching to other chip brands to keep production going and to over come the flooding that nearly wiped them out, They are now using Sony sensors

Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm
Yes, the Canon M series have been good sellers and in particular the M5/50, people including myself liked the mini DSLR styling of the M5/50, even at that size Canon got the ergonomics about right. It seems that the R10 is the new entry level but it would have to come down to entry level DSLR prices...

Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm
There are some pics on and specs on the Net for new Canon R7 & R10.,initially I'm not too impressed with the R-10, both now share the Cannon FF mount and an adapter is supplied with the R-10 so EFS lenses can be use with the old mount. Small its not, yes, its compact as you can get but not as sm...

Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm
It looks like I bought into a dead end with the Canon M5, I hoped there would be more lenses to come but sadly not. I bought the M5 because I wanted a Cropped APS-C camera in a small body. The adapter I got with the kit enables EFS lenses to be used but with their size it totally defeats the object ...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings
By comparison, the Sony looks bloated compared to the Nikon which looks quite slim, The Nikon gets plenty of praise for action photography and some very nice Jpegs as well. I guess its how it feels in the hand, I should imagine the Nikon feels pretty good

Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm
I wonder what mount Canon will use on the R10, or will our older lenses become redundant unless there will be an adapter

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings
Looks like the Nikon is a keeper, talking about bright OVF. I had a look through my friends Pentax KP, WOW, it reminded me of what I used to love and gave up for EVF.
