Re: Street Photography in Fort Worth

I like the first 2, especially #1. While I see where you're going with 3 & 4, they're not my forte.

Re: Gaygadget Loves Canon, Nikon, Ignores Sony

Does a gay person really need different gadgets from everyone else? Well, I guess that depends on where you draw that line on what's a 'gadget' and what's a 'toy'. I have no personal knowledge of that! It's also been my observation that every gay that's "out of the closet" wants to 'push'...

Re: Poor Canon DSLR Sales

Wrongo, DSLR sales are booming! :!: You missed the major part of my first reply as well as my CIPA report link. Now take the time read the short CIPA report I linked above and you will see the growth rates between slr type and fixed lens type digital cameras. With a 47% increase in lens sale...

Re: Problem with 17-35 KM lens.

That is is happening with two lenses, appears to be related to a moment where drain on the power is strong, and the lenses are both ones which have fairly stiff focus motors makes me think that battery condition could be a factor. Lith-ion cells can show sudden failure under load when old. David Pe...

Re: Poor Canon DSLR Sales

The economy has a lot to do with it, but I'm sure that the proliferation of high MP point and shoot compacts doesn't help. It used to be, it you wanted really good photos, you had little choice than to buy and learn to use a SLR. That gave you a decent sized format, good glass and lots of options. N...

Re: January, The Gray Month

I know how you feel, JB. The winter doldrums are upon me! Too little time outside, and too much to get done inside the house.

The gray light outside makes me yearn for the bright summer sun. Springtime will be SO welcome!

Re: Snow desert

Nice. Reminds me of the Connecticut winter when I dated my wife. I'm so glad that's behind us.

Here in St. Louis we normally only get 1 or 2 good snowfalls a year. Being the warm weather type, that's more to my liking.

Picture Motion Browser is the free picture and video organizer/viewer that Sony includes w/ it's cameras. There a lot better ones out there.

Black Portraits

Anyone have any tips for portraits of Black people? Especially the very dark skinned ones. They always seem to have a shine to their skin, as if it were oily (and it's not) and those with bald or shaved heads seem much worse. If doing formal portraits, I guess it would be possible to powder down the...

Re: New Trends

But how is something that Sony announced months ago that big of news with this now. It looks to be using the IMX057. I don't expect this sensor tech to come to the DSLRs anytime soon as the unit cell size they are using would make for a 282MP sensor when done in 35mm FF. Bit high rez than I think m...

Re: Alpha 200 AV cable

BTW, nice forum. As a Canon user, I'm not likely to have much input (except when my dad has something he can't fathom out), but I may lurk around if that's OK. Particularly impressed with some of the fantastic shots in the Gallery. Cheers Mark Well, Mark, you don't HAVE to stay with that inferior e...

Re: Wanted Upgrade on Alphas

As a latecomer to digital there's a lot for me to learn, and calibrating monitors and printers properly is a part of that. In the film world, we all know that different emulsions had different characteristics, and would often pick a certain one for the type of shooting we were doing. We could always...

Re: Will All Future Alpha and CZ Stuff be Made in China?

Only too true. Few people now have any idea how huge and powerful China was in the past. And will be again far sooner than we realise. Interesting times are just ahead. David There's an ancient Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times." I believe that all too soon we'll know just...

Wanted Upgrade on Alphas

I was thinking of the "INFO" thread, and also Sonolta's issue with with his new monitor, calibration. So I got this bright idea..... What if Sony included and electronic version of a Macbeth Color Checker in-camera? A protected image in firmware could be used, so that if you were printing ...
