Great shot, Doc. The inclusion of the man in the picture makes an enormous difference, IMO. Without him, it could easily be just a minor depression.

Re: Trying to ignore dPreview

Over the last few months I've been participating in dPreview forums for NEX, Alpha and Cyber-shot mostly because of the need for information from as many early adopters as possible. Alongside some genuinely useful information, I've been rather knocked back by the depth of ignorance and convinced mi...

Re: Zion

Impressive, have to say the location looks stunning. It truly is a stunning place to visit, for photographers and non-photographers alike. If one has any health issues, the one area of potential concern is that it is at an elevation of approximately 8000 feet, and many of the best scenes are on wal...

Re: First time I've had this request...

When my son got married, his wife chose a photographer whose previous work she really, really liked. At the wedding, I walked up to him and told him that even though I had some nice equipment (At the time, I had the Zeiss 85mm f:1.4 that a friend had loaned me on my camera), I was not "competi...

Very nice shots, Doc.

Also, your choice of subject material was - as always - very interesting.

Re: History is still with us

Here are some additional images from that weekend, all shot with the Zeiss 85mm lens. Because the type of events that were being re-enacted took place 150 years ago, it seemed appropriate to have black & white images, so I was shooting RAW + JPEG, with the in-camera JPEG images set for B&W ...

History is still with us

A couple of weeks ago I posted an image in the Lens Lore forum that was taken with the Zeiss 85mm f:1.4, shot wide open on my NEX-6. That image was taken at a two-day event held by re-enactors of the US Civil War, and was shot wide open with the goal of obtaining a shallow depth of focus. Here are ...

Re: Food & Drinks 2013

As Yildiz mentioned cinnamon, I must say, Sury, that taking some in moderate quantities lowers the need for antidiabetic drugs. Thanks for the information, Doc. I need to remember this the next time that my wife says nasty things about my habit of eating a cinnamon roll with coffee for breakfast. I...

Re: No Permission to view images while logged out of the For

If not logged in, I have the same behavior as described above, with the "You do not have permission" message and the absence of the images. BTW, once I am logged in, what is the reason for the appearance of only thumbnails in some messages and thumbnails plus full images in other messages...

Adapted lenses - Sony Alpha Mount 35mm f:1.8 lens on my NEX6

Here is an image taken last night in a restaurant at a family birthday dinner. It happens to be my youngest grandson (14 months) with his mother. The camera was my NEX-6, using a 35mm f:1.8 Sony Alpha Mount lens on a LA-EA2 adapter. Shutter speed was 1/60 second, f-stop was f:1.8, and ISO was 1600....

Zeiss 85mm f:1.4 Sony Alpha lens on Nex-6

Thanks to the generosity of a colleague whose has an enormous collection of cameras and lenses, this weekend I have the loan of a Zeiss 85mm f:1.4 lens in Sony Alpha mount. I have been shooting with it today on on my NEX-6 with the aid of a LA-EA2 adapter, mostly (so far) at the weekend event of an...

Here is an in-camera hand-held panorama of the Mississippi River at New Orleans.

Shot in May of this year with my NEX-6 and the Sony 16-50 "kit lens" set at 28mm.

Re: LR5 v. LR4 - anyone tried the new version?

I saw this today. I am still using 4.4 and will continue waiting before getting 5.?. Warning! Lightroom 5 has a Potentially Catastrophic Bug http://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2013/08/lightroom-5-bug.html That bug has been known since the release of 5.0. What warranted...

Re: That tricky 6 or 7 question

I'll be looking forward to any more on and off field observations from you when you have more experience with the new kit. : ) I'm also curious as to how often you use the Alpha mount lenses on the SEL mount of NEX 6 and if presents any instabilities or if the whole experience is a good smooth-flow...
