Re: AUTOMATIC built-in pop-up flash and external flash problem

I wonder. what kind of batteries are you using in the flash? are they rechargables by chance? I wonder if you tried it with plain disposables?

Re: AUTOMATIC built-in pop-up flash and external flash problem

I have an A200 and 36AM flash and what your describing does not happen on mine with the flash popped up or not. as long as the AF iluminator is set to Auto the camera built in flash never fires. unless wireless mode is activated with the flash off the camera.

Re: buying into flash

ON the ADI mode on these flashes there still seems to be an influence from another source to determine the metering/flash power. Someone was complaining about it in the DPR forum so I played around one night and can't draw any other conclusion except that ADI is only part of the flash exposure equat...

Re: Minolta 50mm F1.7, old or new version? and 17-35 question

I have the 17-35 and can vouch for the image quality. http://www.photoclubalpha.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=580 the shots in that thread that are on the amusement park ride are all from that lens. it focuses quickly too otherwise these shots wouldn't have worked. I have the old 50mm a well an...

Re: Good Graphics Cards for Photographers

I'm not sure a different graphics card is going to make that any faster. larger files need more system ram, RAW conversions need more CPU. Motion video, 3D rendering and vector graphics need more video card. Your picture mainly resides in system memory and the calculations to make changes on that im...

Re: Some weekend fun

I know what you mean. I did the eaves this morning. but rain chased me back in before I could get to some other things. The scrambler shots were a lot easier with this camera than they were with my P50 where I had to deal with shutter lag. many more keepers this time compared to then. it's too bad t...

Some weekend fun

Took the girls (wife and daughter) to the Fergus truck show. we hadn't realized it existed and made a last minute decision to make an afternoon of it when an ad came on the radio. I though it would be a good place to exercise my newest addition. a Minolta 19-35 F2.8, I must say it was a joy to shoot...

Re: Circular Polarizer Filters? Sony, Hoya or Heliopan

sounds like something I could test. I have a minolta 7000 that came with a lens I bought and have been looking for an excuse to try it out. if I get a polorizer for this lens I will try it

Re: Circular Polarizer Filters? Sony, Hoya or Heliopan

I had a Hoya circular before and I liked it but then I tried the linear and it was so much better. same Hoya brand. it had a much more dramatic effect on blues and I think they deal with the shadows on windows a lot better Found myself in a lot of aquariums that summer. I also recently found out tha...

Re: Circular Polarizer Filters? Sony, Hoya or Heliopan

I used tiffen (not very good) and Hoya a lot better. but the Sony ones are reportedly really good. If they are mady by the same place that made the Minolta ones they should be really good. Heliopan I haven't any experience with but I understand them to be top knotch with brass rings and zeiss glass ...

Re: How much do you use your ultra wide angle?

I think I understand (which could be dangerous) but correct me if i'm wrong Depth Of Feild can be measured at the subject and has a certain thickness (if you will allow that term) Depth of Focus which is measured at the sensor and also has a thickness but because the distance from the front element ...

Re: Portrait Professional now in Mac version

wow thats too bad. I have it too but I've only used it a few times on files from PS and haven't had those problems at all. Whats more distressing is if they aren't going to fix bugs and try and make you buy new releases instead. thats how competitors are born.

Re: Focus trap

Damn. I knew this. in fact I already do this and it works quite well. at first it was a little frustrating with a fast moving (in more than one plane) object because sometimes it just can't focus (this was the A200) but when it does the shutter does go off and you get a nice charpp image. I just did...

Focus trap

I read about this method but the details of it didn't soak in because I thought I would be able to do this with my A700 but now I'm not so sure. This was described as focusing on a point a measured distance awayturning manual focus on and recomposing. then holding the shutter down and when something...
