Re: SLT a55

Yes, he does tend to repeat himself... Dusty, you are a master of understatement. That's like saying hurricanes tend to be breezy. The point is, and Barry's made it very clear, there ARE features missing from what should be leading modern cameras. Firmware development alone would solve most of the ...

Re: K5 scores extremely high DxO mark

I said it was pretty good, but not outstanding really nowhere near as good as some make out hype wise..but then a few mins play in a shop in never enough. Personally I wouldn't buy an EVF over an OVF model, but that's not the main problem with Alpha cameras. The same old niggles are there from year...

Re: K5 scores extremely high DxO mark

The painful howling is diminishing. The tone is softening. He has been to the mountain top. Coming out of the closet. "The A55 is pretty nice..." "EVF is pretty good really, for an EVF I'll give it that." It's only a matter of time now. I wonder if we'll ever know when he takes t...

Re: K5 scores extremely high DxO mark

Taste is a personal thing..having had a hands on briefly with an A55 (yesterday)..I frankly don't see what all the fuss is about. It's good (if you like EVF's), but I am surprised it got some rave reviews (well not that shocked but it's really not a gold award camera) as I failed to get caught up i...

Re: K5 scores extremely high DxO mark

You have to have some howling to counter the ultra fan love for the A55. Sure it's got some impressive bits in some ways. On the other hand take out the 10fps, sweep pano and video AF and you've got a pretty ordinary camera. It looks decent but not for me..it is not however the re-birth of Jesus or...

Re: K5 scores extremely high DxO mark

Personally I'd rather look at the real images than spend time crunching (somewhat dubious numbers). On the other hand I got a good giggle watching the A55 super fans howl in pain as their god like camera king of APS-C go de-throned in spectacular fashion and rather quickly as well. Anyway let's loo...

Re: SLT a55

On a side note, tried an A55 for the first time this afternoon. Not liking that on/off switch placement, I turned the camera off at least three times while trying to use the front dial. Shutter noise was extremely quiet compared to my A700, even in 10fps mode. EVF seemed quite usable given my quick...

Re: SLT a55

Can't comment much as I have not tried the A33/55 as of yet (I will shortly though) Sounds pretty much like the G1 EVF as in big but not so great DR wise. There is another side effect to these and EVF will kill your night vision as well (as it's illuminated) maybe not a big deal to some but it migh...

Re: SLT a55

I read somewhere recently that someone's A55 battery experience was that after it had been used and recharged a few times it held more power and could be used longer than the first few times. Let us know if that is what you see. I was wondering about that. I'm kind of into rechargeable batteries of...

Re: SLT a55

I didn't see this thread earlier when I posted the last EVF/polarizer entry in the astronomy thread but I mentioned that with today's sky that polarizer operation was normal and that the AEL solution may only be valid under certain situations. The more I use and learn about the EVF and it's capabili...

Re: SLT a55

Yes, the battery life is a negative. I always get at least a 2nd battery for a body but will probably pick up a 3rd for the A55 to be sure. I have been able to shoot almost all day with my A350 and still have room left over for more shots, but after watching the percentage steadily decreasing in a s...

Re: a55 and ASTRONOMY

I need to go back and recover some of what I said before about using AEL with the polarizer. We finally got one of those magnificent southern California days with bright sunshine and deep blue sky, which we hadn't had with my previous test shots. We were getting over some weather here. Southern Cali...

Re: a55 and ASTRONOMY

You should know better than to quote me out of context..it won't work anyway! Just funning ya, bfitzgerald. Don't take me too seriously. One thing to keep in mind is that many people may care even less about how much you're threatened by EVF and how much you say that you don't care about it at all....

Re: a55 and ASTRONOMY

For me, I always tried to get what I saw in the viewfinder to be the same as what I captured on film, and try to also with digital. With film that meant matching the film used to the subject at hand, with digital it means tweaking in PP, which I'm not very good at. This means we take in to account ...
