Re: Super Steady Shot

same as per alphaomega - on tripod SSS off, handheld SSS on even with a 1:1 macro (in my case a Tamron 180mm). If by your old Dynax you mean a 5D/7D then your reolution has increased noticeably if you view at 100% on a monitor. Also, imo the CCD gives a nicerr image at low ISO than the CMOS in the A...

where are you?
Cenwyn looks Welsh to me but that doesn't necessarily mean that you live in Wales or even the UK ...

If you are in the UK Jessops are currently £499.

Re: More from Gustav on Sony Alpha in 2010

Sure, but you have a choice with the K-x a normal black or various colours. Big difference between the A230-380 "girlie style" bodies, and a fairly normal DSLR design in various colours. Choice is the key word here, and choice is something you don't really have with Sony. You can try to d...

Re: More from Gustav on Sony Alpha in 2010

Have to disagree on this one. It's not worth "trying" to market to a specific group, at the expense of another. These models are not storming the sales charts, far from it. If they were selling great, I would simply say..oh well, if it works fair enough. The issue is it's not working! App...

Re: Sony 28-75mm f2.8 SAM

you have to disable the SSS if you want to use the lens OS (& vice versa) but it does give you the option of either/or.

Re: More from Gustav on Sony Alpha in 2010

I doubt there are more women buying DSLR's then men, look around folks, this is a male dominated activity. haven't yet found exactly the article that i remember seeing but this is along the same lines (but not as detailed/informative). http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/news/DSLR_cameras_are_for_...

Not all the SAM lenses are expensive though.. Sony 55-200 f4-5.6 DT SAM 305g (L85 X W72mm) $230 US B&H Sigma 50-200 f4-5.6 DC OS HSM 420g (L101.9 X W74mm) $199 US B&H (both have 55mm filter size) ....an amazing price for Sony.... Sony 18-55 f3.5-5.6 DT SAM 210g (L70 X W70mm) $200 US B&H...

Re: More from Gustav on Sony Alpha in 2010

Couple of points here. I would say the ratio of male to female buyers for DSLR's is probably 5 to 1 if not even more. there was an article recently somewhere on the web saying that in the Japanese market in the last year there were more women DSLR buyers than that - in fact that women were taking f...

Re: So ... David ... some new blood being spilled?

Of course there is a new rumor running around about a new Sony Alpha, supposedly with photo evidence. The lens seems to be a Sony/Zeiss design, but even more clearly, the body seems to be a high-end Nikon, probably a D3s. This would not be the first time I've heard of people adapting Sony/Zeiss len...

afaik Sony are the only people that have ever announced a new DSLR at CES (A200 & now A450 but both are lower end).

Still, it's puzzling why Sony is so poor sales wise in the USA, and it appears recently Japan..
afaik they don't sell the A330, A500 & A850 in Japan & the A550 was very late to the party.
effectively they are only selling 1/2 the range... :?

Re: More from Gustav on Sony Alpha in 2010

supposedly as far as Alpha is concerned Europe does have a lot of influence. 30% Japan, 30% USA and about 35% the rest of the world. Japan rules... that's possibly global total market but a lot of Alpha development is supposedly European based. Alpha has ~20% market share in Europe - 20% of 30% is ...

Re: Headsup Sony A700 £274 in-store clearance @ Currys UK

 However as someone who has used ( borrowed ) Canon and Nikon optically stabilised lenses ( and as an unbiased Sony a700 user ) I can assure you that optical stabilisation is a great deal better in practical usage , because unlike in-camera stabilisation it freezes the image in the viewfinder...
