Re: Mirrorless rumours
Greg, There really is no place to stick a joke in. The current methods of photonic capture are at their theoretical limits. I don't like it (I mean the state of thought) as it is here and now (since the hit of total globalisation got upon us all - that 'here&now' is all the planet and the vicini...

Re: Mirrorless rumours
Greg,
You need to capture as many photons as possible to minimise the photon noise that's there due to the randomness of the photon hits. So using an ND to lower the total photon count is no way to quality image capture. Like I said - no use for general photography, at all.

Re: Mirrorless rumours
Graphene Image Sensor 1000X More Sensitive to Light Than Current Sensors Let me translate this claim - '1000X more sensitive' = 1000X more output voltage per photon, same or worse quantum efficiency. No practical use for photography. Cannot handle bright light. May get some use wherever low power c...

Re: Mirrorless rumours
That's only for the ZA a-mount primes that may be up to sniff. The zooms (24-70 and the 16-80 APS) may have some nice properties, but they also have some completely unpardonable flaws, like field curvature of the 24-70 that precludes the AF use at certain conditions, or the hard vignetting with 16-8...

Somebody at Dyxum has found a way to read shutter actuation count from EXIF - http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/image-shutt ... 97614.html.

Re: Nex-6 ramblings
To that means using the A setting on F5.6 or below (F4 etc.) to use PDAF. Using P would mean not knowing if you use PDAF or not depending on the camera's choice of setting. For a specific lens type there's an optimum aperture for the PDAF function. And in the P-mode the body uses that while focusin...

Re: Nex-6 ramblings
The PDAF as found in the 6/5R does only work below f/6.3 (i.e. at apertures not smaller than). That also means that the A-mode should not be used if you want some PDAF benefit to show at all. The problem is that the Nex sys tries to focus at the prescribed aperture as long as there is enough light. ...

Re: Sony Support/Service - My opinion
Barry, That has never happened with my a55, even with the sun in the frame, even after strongest tonal adjustments - never. That is clearly the electronic design prob with a57 in general. While you still have that a57 body, go get a used a55 and swap the mirrors in them before you return the a57. Af...

Re: No A78 this year according to SAR
I was reading some stuff about sensor design and they were saying the wiring grid overlay was some kind of IR interference filter in its own right, but that one had me baffled, unless it runs at a temperature that’s less than the rest of the sensor maybe, (absorption) it wouldn’t be small enough to...

Re: No A78 this year according to SAR
Having a large mirror chamber is a good thing. It improves telecentricity. But the most important thing is that they may put there something else, like the hot mirror; and more importantly, that hot mirror may be in the same slanted position as the current SLT mirror. This way the reflected IR is re...

They did, in a way; and it was not too good. Sony must try much better to succeed with that.Atgets_Apprentice wrote:Haven't Ricoh already done this?

Re: No A78 this year according to SAR
I think the only logical solution is to make camera bodies with interchangeable mount modules. As long as the mount module is a standard part across the bodies, the cost of the system may stay reasonably low. Such mount modules may include an E, a full legacy A, a no-screwdrive A and then maybe some...

Re: No A78 this year according to SAR
Ditching SLT altogether requires that on-sensor PDAF of competitive efficiency is foregoing.
So I assume it's a very good news indeed; once it's promoted out of the 'rumour' status, that is.

Re: Samyang tilt-shift 24mm f3.5 announced
Agorabasta, that Polish image looks to me like an ordinary picture awaiting treatment in Photoshop's Distortion Filter. The socalled "verticals" look quite "slopy". Sure! It's just like I said above - they tilt it the wrong way or they tilt it in a random way. Otherwise, the sam...
