Update: Having taken some test shots yesterday, there was still a little debris on the sensor, but nothing to compare with the previous build up. This was quickly dealt with by the Air Rocket, and the next test shots proved to be clean. I will be following up on this in the weeks ahead, so stand by...

My a580 arrived back this morning, and it appears that the sensor was misaligned, so the camera was faulty after all. It has been repaired, cleaned and tested. Whether the issue has been resolved, remains to be seen, as I can only tell once the camera has been used.

Update: I've just received an e-mail from the retailer that they cannot do a refund, and can only exchange "like for like", and since I don't want another a580, I am stuck with it. I may was well go back to the clapped out a100 I "upgraded" from. At least the sensor cleaning on ...

My answer to your question at the moment would be a resounding NO . I have owned an a580 since March, and whilst it has many great features, great handling, and an optical viewfinder, it is seriously let down by the sensor cleaning mode. Maybe I should say the sensor not-cleaning mode. I heard about...
