Re: after all these long years of buying cameras and as soon

Personally I don't really mind what makers call models consumer or not makes little difference to me or most buyers. You get a different level of support, at least in the UK. Perhaps their professional support team is so busy cleaning D800 sensors that they just couldn't take on doing the same for ...

Re: I think I'll give up on ebay

Clearly some sellers find Ebay useful. Photostore seems to sell only on Ebay so he must find it cost-effective. Although Ebay and Paypal take their cut, you effectively get targetted advertising included and with Paypal you don't have to worry about bounced cheques. I also know of dealers who switch...

Re: after all these long years of buying cameras and as soon

Although I find reports of dust and oil spots on Nikon sensors rather worrying. My son had a D7000 that kept getting oil spots on the sensor and the problem persisted even after two returns to Nikon for fixing. Seems too much lubricant applied to mirror/shutter mechanism on quite a few models. The ...

Re: Free TV with A99

the only question mark I have is Nikon's QC which is lately not so hot. Maybe it's significant that Nikon regard the D600 as a consumer, not professional, camera. I know one serious D700 user who does not see the D600 as worth considering as that seems to indicate a reduction in QC. There have been...

Re: Help me re-build my A mount system

One test report, I think it was Kurt Munger commented that the supplied lens hood was almost useless in shading the lens. Pete That is usually the case with extreme wide angles, and particularly zooms. The hood has to be nearly useless at the widest setting to prevent vignetting, so it also has to ...

Re: ISO equivalent A900 versus D600

Finding the A99 a problem - I can't get close enough. I shoot so many things very close. I need to think about going back to a 24-105mm just because it does close focus a little better. David Is that a problem with the lens or with the camera? If the lens, which one. I seem to remember that was a p...

Re: Reasons for buying a NEX-VG900 instead of an A99

There is one thing that a 50 can’t do of course (I reluctantly admit) and that’s bring the vanishing point much closer than the horizon, that’s something only a wide angle can do so maybe a good wide should be in the bag as well for those one or two  dramatic perspective shots Greg I have both...

Unfortunately for Sony, Canon would be the main beneficiary.

Re: Sony Alpha A99 Field Test Report

Another Nikon problem is oil or some other gunk splashing onto the sensor from the shutter mechanism. It seems to be associated with firing in continuous mode. I know two people with D800's who have suffered this but I have heard it has affected other models as well. I was on a workshop with someone...

Re: Sony Alpha A99 Field Test Report

I personally cannot recommend Nikon based purely on my own experience of their AF, maybe the problems are sorted out on the D600, I certainly hope so. It may be that support for 'professional' equipment is much better. I believe there is a dedicated team based in their head office for this. Unfortu...

Re: Sony Alpha A99 Field Test Report

But it is having an impact on Canon and Nikon - FF users are switching to their systems from Sony to get an OVF. I don't think that's right. I think folks (like me) are just sitting on their A900's and A850s. For me, it's not the EVF that's causing me to sit tight, it's the fact that there's no rea...

Re: Sony Alpha A99 Field Test Report

What I would like to see is a compact prime wide-angle or two for APS-C (around 14mm would be ideal). You can still get them for FF (e.g. the Sony 20mm). The problem with zooms is that the filter size and lens hood have to cater for the widest angle and they are generally much larger and heavier tha...

Re: How much is your DSLR net cost?

I got great results with the 28-135mm too. However, I generally use the 24-85mm as a 'walk-around' lens nowadays because close-focusing on the 28-135 isn't great and it's rather heavy. You get that that extra reach up to 135mm but that's not usually enough for me so I have to carry a 70-300 anyway. ...

Re: The Nightmare is over!

I don't know if it is stlll the case, but Nikon used to have two levels of service, depending on which model(s) were registered. I would guess you would need at least a D300 for their professional support.

Re: The Nightmare is over!

Clearly Canon were not thinking about more megapixels with the 5D Mk III. To a large extent the megapixel race has been caused by consumer demand. Although most amateur (and some professional) photographers do not produce prints large enough to benefit from the extra definition, and don't have lense...
