A Little bit of G.A.S.

So, and old friend called recently. Seems the photographer had bailed on his daughter's wedding, and asked if I could step in. Doing his oldest daughter's wedding in 2008 was what got me into digital in the first place. Taking a look at what I have: my 2 350s still take good pics, but since I droppe...

Re: Olympus is out...

As companies keep dropping out of the market, it should make the others stronger. The problem with that is that everything (except m4/3) is proprietary. Flashes, batteries, lenses. About the only standard is the tripod mount! That means a lot of us will keep scrounging used items until they are no l...

Re: Future of A mount

Early digital couldn't compete with film, but I had a few cheap models so that I didn't have to scan photos and load them to the web. Of course, even though the internet was becoming a thing - I used to run a dial in BBS, if anyone remembers them - it was slow, we were working with bad graphics card...

Re: Future of A mount

I think Sony have scored an own goal with the E mount system, the market is shrinking for E mount because of cost... The market is shrinking. Period. Canon and Nikon are not doing better. Cellphones are "good enough" for what most people need. More resolution is always good, but 61 MP is ...

Re: first colorizing attempt at B&W

Details please? What tutorial, software, how complicated was it.....

I may never try it, but who knows.

I actually once worked with an older lady who had done that for a living in the '50s and '60s for a portrait studio. Lots of time spent doing it all by hand on the b/w portraits.

De-Duping my photos with Anti-Twin

Having some down time lately because of the weather, I've taken to de-duping my photos, and saving many gigs of space in so doing. Part of this is the fact that I always used to have an non-busy late morning at my old job, and often worked on my photos there, as well as my home PC, so combining the ...

Re: 2 Cameras at the Auto Show

Back in the film days, it was 3 or 4 cameras, since you had different film for different situations. Now, ISO is not fixed until you change a spool, and no one knows what slides are anymore - they think they're something to do with powerpoint! However, it's always quicker to change from one camera t...

One of the tram boarding stations which are about 40 feet beneath the Arch legs. Cell phone camera 0523180752.jpg I don't think they've changed the loading stations since they built the place! I looks just the same as it did the first time I went there, in the 1960's! A little piece of me is in the...

JB, now you're going to force me to shoot some of shots of what's coming up at home!

My wife actually has some great shots of the apricot blooms from our tree shot on her i-phone.

We get to start anew on all that as we are soon moving.

Not too secret. I remember a Post-Dispatch article about that house many years ago!

It's interesting to see behind the scenes.

Here's a very novel use of video - to capture sound!

Re: Helping Friends with Short Art Films

Wow... very observant! Yes, we were at the Valhalla cemetery on St. Charles Rock Road. We were there for 3 nights. We saw a lot of old and interesting family plots there. Which section is your family in? I may have to go back and make a social visit. Sig Sig, Most of my family is to the left of the...

Re: Rudie

Cute! We had something similar. My Dad raised goats, and one winter a mother rejected one of her young. Mom and Dad bottle fed her, and put her in with the newborn pups to keep warm. That goat thought she was a dog! She would run with them, and when they started barking she would bay along with thei...

A little late to the table, but Irma was the reason my kid's vacation of a lifetime to Disney World was cut short a few days.

We left the day before it hit.
