Re: It's still about the image

Henry, I am glad to see an expert shooter with the A590is! I got one some months ago, and enjoy it. (I chose it because of its extensive manual controls and the use of AA batteries.) As DK must be sleeping and Murph must be taking pictures at this time of the day (early morning in Scotland as in Sp...

Re: Happy New Year to all!!

It did not involve any Scots words, just common words from the northern language of that period (found anywhere from Derbyshire to Edinburgh), and I explained two or three words before singing it - specifically, that the old Scots for 'love' is 'loo' (English find this one hard) and that 'noddle' w...

Re: Happy New Year to all!!

The best thing that happened to me was moving to Scotland, and then - a bit later - hearing 'Deevie' instead of David. The first time I heard that, ah kent ah wiz hame! Oh, you are originally not from Scotland? I had assumed you were a Scot. Where are you from? It is very interesting to hear about ...

Re: It's still about the image

Bakubo, a good shot of a person living on the streets or perhaps the beach...rather painful to imagine the life of that man/woman, life is tougher for some and we are so lucky to be conveniently in the security of our homes...Like Dr. Harout, I also think the photo of the girl and the girl herself ...

Re: It's still about the image

Nice shots Henry, specially the first. The last one is gorgeous (I mean the one in the shot  ) As for the fellow in the first one, he really needs a Dermatologist's consultation. Thanks, Doc! You are always so conscientious in replying to everyone and it is appreciated. I am down at the beach...

Re: It's still about the image

Some very nice photos so far! The first 2 are from yesterday with the A700 and the 3rd one is with the Canon A590IS digicam from a bit over a week ago. http://www.bakubo.com/galleries/Hawaii/Hawaii%205/slides/DSC03772.jpg http://www.bakubo.com/galleries/Hawaii/Hawaii%205/slides/DSC03764.jpg http://w...

Re: PMA 2009

Sorry, but what you say on the view finders doesn't change my statement at all. Of course there will always be people who use the OVF no matter what. Doesn't mean it makes any sense. I buy mid range and up DLSRs so I can have useable view finders, thus LV is not needed for me. But On P&S I neve...

Re: PMA 2009

As luck would have it, I just got a text from a friend..and he has just taken delivery of the said Canon lens! ooops, better not mention this thread. Anyway, I will have a look at it when I am round there next...though I suspect on his 450d, it will be satisfactory..maybe FF it wouldn't be. Probabl...

Re: PMA 2009

Wrong, sadly. The 24-105mm L is terrible. It won't cover full frame sharply and countless Canon owners will confirm that. So can I, I got one to test to find out if they were just bad photographers misusing the lens. Not so. It simply isn't sharp at the edges, and not all that good in the middle ei...

Re: PMA 2009

The 24-105 isn't that expensive. They don't give them away, but it is well priced. It is a kit lens afterall. Are you referring to the Canon 24-105mm f4L IS lens? That is a US$1,000 lens! It is not a kit lens, although Canon does provide it in some high-end kits (5D, 5DII). For $1k and a big, heavy...

Re: PMA 2009

Entry Level OVFs are pretty worthless, not as pointless as an OVF on a P&S, but still not good. I assume you are just using some hyperbole here. :) The OVF in the Canon DRebel/300D I used to have and the OVF in the A100 I gave my wife are far from worthless. If they were then I must have just h...

Re: What would be the next logical innovation for Sony DSLRs?

Is there anyone here worrying about the financial status about Sony? Repeatedly heard from my friends using Nikon/Canon discouraging me for further investment.... :( :( Sony has 180,500 employees. Canon has 23,429 employees. Nikon has 25,342 employees. I got that from info from each company's websi...

Re: need a low cost wide lens for a350

I tried the tokina 18-35, but returned it after 2 days , needed to be stopped down to f11 to get any sort of shapness and I did not like the colors I got out of it. I'll take a look at the two sigma models you and bakubo/alphaPDX mentioned Note that the lens I mentioned wasn't a recommendation. I h...
