Re: Kelso - no Gas!
Like Bossel has posted, around here houses have traditionally been designed to be cool in Summer and to open out into the garden. So when it drops below 5C and the winds start to build up you start to notice it. I have been looking at some of the winter/snow shots with interest as it does't snow her...

Re: Hippos....
Hippo's are not one of natures cute and cuddly. They have a deserved reputation for having a nasty steak and for violence to people and boats. Over short distances on land they can outrun a adult human.
A very good shot Sir.

Re: LL has A900 photo on front page
If Hogan is correct about a D700x followup, dare I suggest that Nikon will price it about the same as the D3 ?

Re: Some street shooting in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (Malaysia).
I have fought a tendency to make my " building portraits " look too much like Richard Avedons people portraits.
So I admit that while 1. made me smile, I really ,really liked 6. The flags make the shot for me, otherwise the shadows would have made the picture bottom heavy.

Re: Nikon D3X on the way
David you mentioned that you were expecting the Canon 5D 11 for review. I am going to be interested in the reactions of reviewers to this camera. Based on a casual conversation at a local fast food franchise with the only Canon 5D user that I know ( non pro as well ), the new camera is not what he w...

Re: Golf Anyone?
Don't believe them Doc. Golf was invented as a outside sports game in a country that in a good year has 1 month of Autumn followed by 10 months of windy and wet winter and then a month of spring (sometimes). And this the same nation that pollutes it's whiskey with lemonade and whose national dish is...

Re: CZ 16-80 vignetting at 80mm: normal or defective?
Sony must be aware of the problems. That at 16mm and f 4.5 this occurs and at 70mm and f 8 then that occurs based on testing a random sample of lenses. I think the very least we are owed at the present is a decent software program indexing known problems with the choice of a generalized auto-correct...

Re: Rumours
The MacNN site is carrying 3 photos of what is purported to be the Nikon D-3x. The info came from Nikon Rumors. No tech spec's just a vague sentence about rumours of it supposedly having a sensor of between 21 and 25 megapixels to compete against Canon. Makes a statement that the new sensor is going...

Re: CZ 16-80 vignetting at 80mm: normal or defective?
I bought my A700 with the CZ 16 - 80 mm lens as soon as they were available in this part of the world and given the horror stories doing the rounds I must have been lucky. The lens is so frustrating in that it is not only sharp but also is able to pull the colours in the landscape here so well. But ...

Re: Sigma Big Lenses
You use what you have got and what you can afford at the time. Also this was when the internet was a scientific tool and that even basic dial-up modems were expensive and unreliable and your phone bills even worse. Forums like this did not exist. A lot harder to make the same mistakes today. It was ...

Re: Sigma Big Lenses
I'm holding out to see what the Sony 70 - 400 G is like before I make any choice for a new long lens. But on the Sigma 70 - 300 APO I did buy on at the same time as I bought a Minolta 7xi for shooting local hockey games ( that is field hockey to anyone in North America ). The Sigma only lasted one s...

Re: Sony and the economy
The only way Sony could get itself into serious trouble is if the CEO and board are trying to take all the day to day decisions. And not delegating enough power down to the the managers of the various functional divisions of the company.

Re: UK VAT and exchange rates
In Australia the GST ( Goods and Service Tax ) is 10% or actually you multiply the cost before GST by 1/11th. Politics here is more of a spectator sport rather than a mass participation, but try 20% ! Many years ago at uni when studying medieval euro history I cam across a quote that went like this,...

Re: Rumours
I guess what I needed to say is that in times like these the companies need to keep talking and communicating with the buying public and their dealers. On Nikon making an announcement, these seems to have been two different schools of speculators some weeks back. The first was how long would it be b...

Re: Rumours
I'm as much of a rumour junkie as anyone. And given that it is now two months since Photokina and PMA 09 isn't till the beginning of March 2009, I would have thought that some " unofficial pre-announcements " might be taking place. Given the economic climate not just Sony, Nikon and Canon ...
