Re: using sony a350 - alamy rejections

Does that desirable controls disabled work through into the printer control with it overiding any Epson R2880 settings set up via Printer&Faxes in Windows XP? I had this bother with Elements 8, but Elements 6 was fine. David is being kind when he says Windows color management is rubbish. The ap...

Re: using sony a350 - alamy rejections

Bruce, you have to be aware that the sample of the A350 shot rejected, which I posted, was upscaled already ...David Shame on me…I thought both example details were at 100%. My statements about USM are valid but my use of this as an example makes me look foolish. The whole scenario of my re-sharpen...

Re: using sony a350 - alamy rejections

I have no intention of selling my photographs to a stock agency but am VERY curious as to what they want technically, so this is a very interesting dialog to me. Personally I develop all my RAW images in ACR (now ACR 6.2) and leave sharpening completely minimal…not at ACR default. ALL images are a t...

Re: a900/a850 capture characteristics

I have held both cameras in my hands consecutively and the only thing that is different about the external body housings is that the a850 has a different surface…it’s somewhat more matte. Some have said the rubberized parts are different but I haven’t noticed it. If you are familiar with the shake a...

a900/a850 capture characteristics

There were a number of reasons I chose an a850 to be my next camera when I purchased one a year ago. Two of them had to do with the nature of the sensor. One is the huge dynamic range that this camera’s sensor can capture but I think the other related issue was somewhat of a fool’s errand on my part...

Use Intelligent Preview!

Use Intelligent Preview! I didn’t at first, as I thought it was a poor attempt at live view and added strictly to pad the feature set. Once I actually used it however, I realized it is brilliant and one of the hidden-in-plain-sight features of the a900/a850 that needs to be used to be appreciated. A...

Re: Scanner Settings

I’m so late in replying that I doubt anyone will read this but thought I’d add my 2 cents. I see no discrepancy between Barry and Alan’s statement about bit depth. I scan at 16/48 bits and print at 8/24. The reason is that our scanners have an amazing ability to delineate the most subtle tonal varia...

Re: More advanced AF system from Sony, when and what?

You might very well be right about the a9xx having video. But if it does, I seriously doubt it will not have some type of auto focus. The a560-a580 both have contrast detect to help with one of the live view modes so I suspect that’s how it will focus during video…just a guess. I just can’t imagine ...

Re: More advanced AF system from Sony, when and what?

I’ve been giving this a lot of thought lately. I have no insider information but I think is fair to assume that this HAS to be coming. We know that the A700 replacement is approaching. Sony has recently stated that a better ELF is in the works to go into the A77. They have recently stated that highe...

Re: Where to start with a life time of slides?

There are two issues here. One is copying the slides and two is the delivery process. David’s suggestion is excellent especially because it is quick and reasonably priced. I believe for more optimal results scanning is the way to go and here speed and effort are inversely proportional to costs. Any ...

Update:

Just for kicks I decided to actually go out and take a couple shots with the newly adjusted lens. One set was a duplication of a set of indoor images I had taken a couple weeks ago that were WAY out of focus and I had excellent success in the reshoot. This was at 8 feet 60mm and f5.6. No surprises:)...

YES:)

Thank you very much for the reply. It was not the response I expected but I believe it is the correct one and it forced me to rethink and re-perform my testing and the results. In the last iteration of tests I did do them outside and all of the testing has been around 10 feet away and was using cent...

Zoom lens repair advice needed.

When I bought my KM 7D 4.5 years ago, it came with a KM 28-75 f2.8. I liked the lens but didn’t especially like the effective 43-112 mm range. My 50mm f1.7 was used for indoor natural light, the 28-75 was relegated to far less use, and a Sony 18-250 or Beercan or 70-300G for the lion’s share of my s...

Re: Printing

Many years ago I used Epson ESP800, Epson ESP850, Epson ESP 900 and Epson 1520 which all used similar or the same dye based ink sets. At that time Epson made MANY glossy papers and unfortunately some prints faded into worthlessness in a short period of time. Here’s an example of a scan of an old pho...
