At least with digital you don't have to pay for developing and printing to test new techniques!

Re: Just a shot

Good shot, Doc. Luckily for my heating bill, global warming has kept the snow from accumulating where I am.

Not right now, but wait until you get an 80 MP camera!

Re: Extension tube or close-up lens?

Obviously you didn't understand anything, did you? -- Olaf No, obviously you didn't test then in all conditions. As tested, you got better results with the close up lenses. This may not be true in all situations. I was remarking on a broader theme of true macro lenses vs extension tubes vs screw-on...

Re: Extension tube or close-up lens?

Yep, extension tubes are a quick and dirty trick to avoid the cost of properly designed optics. They often give good results, and when you compare costs against good macro lenses, you have to justify the optical expense. Good close up optical lenses, the screw-on type you tested, are the compromise....

Re: New Memory Sticks

I've been waiting for the memory capacities to go up and the price down so that we can finally make the switch to flash memory for computers. I just updated my laptop my replacing my 120 GB drive with a 250, at a cost of $85. When I can put flash memory in there of that capacity, even at twice that ...

Re: Any idea what this is ?

That's one of the program modules for the 2nd gen Maxxums. They had different modules that would let you 'program' your camera for sports, portraits, etc. It was supposed to let the amateurs get pro results by letting the camera do the settings according to the type of shot you were taking. Nowadays...

Re: Will All Future Alpha and CZ Stuff be Made in China?

A lot of good points have been made here, and while I am willing to admit that the Chinese CAN make good quality products, there is a problem with Chinese manufacturing that often gets overlooked. The Chinese, even more than Corporate America, are all abut the bottom line. And not JUST form a corpor...

Re: High ISO Question For Sonolta

May be we should start a thread where we can share our favorite technique(s) for low light and available light shots. My shooting technique comes straight from the US Marine Corps rifle and pistol shooting technique. (Yes, I'm a proud Jarhead). First, get good bone support: tuck your right elbow in...

Re: New Trends

Digital zoom is nothing more than cropping. I don't see the advantage to it being in-camera. That's why I always go for the high MP count and high optical zoom, because if I need to enlarge a portion of the frame, I can do it better in software than the camera can.

Re: Challenge 1: Wheels within Wheels

I dug through the archives and found one that I made work. The pulleys, flywheel cover and even exhaust pipes, placed between the drive wheels, satisfies the challenge. Had I been taking it for the challenge, I would have been directly behind and lower. wheels2c.jpg Having just bought my A350, and g...

Re: Which lens / Telephoto zoom

You have to ask yourself what type of shooting you do to determine what type of lens is best. Are you working close to your subjects, where you need to get them all in? A wide angle prime or wide zoom is what you need. Need to bring that moose up close from across the valley? Get a tele or tele zoom...

Re: The "INFO" key or "INFO" Menu selection

While information can be readily compressed, both the creation of that information in compressed form and a method of display can add greatly to the cost. Camera LCD displays aren't optimized for use as readers, and the addition of decompression engines and display/menuing mechanisms would add much ...

If these are the old MC/MD mount lenses, which they appear to be by your description, they will NOT work without an adapter.

A cheap lens brings good results

Went to my my daughter's "WinterFest Concert" (Christmas is too exclusive) with my camera to pop a few pics of her and show fatherly support. Couldn't see her, as she was behind others, but I took a few snaps of the sax player who was being backed up by his dad. I used my A350 with my Quan...
