Re: sony vs tamron 18-250
I actually purchased the Tamron 18-250 for my A700 based on DK's recomndation. I also own the CZ16-80. I prefer the CZ because of its 16 mm wide end and faster speed. The Tamron provides quality images but is slower at 6.3. The AF is not the fastest in the world. My wife uses it on our A350 and love...

Re: Sigma Big Lenses
Ruthless was looking for a big Sigma lens. It may not be big enough for him but the good news is that Sigma UK have just taken delivery of the Sony version of their new 120-400 mm. I may just splash out on one if it gets good reviews. Here is the e-mail I have just reveived from Sigma UK: The 120-40...

Re: Minolta MD Lenses modified on A900?
Thank you sparaxis for your comprehensive reply. I conclude that really the only option for me is to purchase the non glass converter MD to AF and use it with my 50 mm Macro lens.

Re: Minolta Dimage 5400 & 5400 II & Vista SP1
I have the Minolta Dimage Elite 5400 II, which I am using on a PC equipped with XP. I gather from the correspondence above that both the original 5400 and the 5400 II are coming to grief on Vista unaided. That is a pity as I am just about to purchase a new and faster PC with Vista Home Premium SP1. ...

Re: A900 and Tilt & Shift
Thank you for the information provided above. It would appear that I have potentially three options open to me when needing a shift lens: 1. Continue to use my Mamiya 645 Pro with the excellent 50 mm Mamiya C Shift Lens (Bulky and I may be acosted as a potential terrorist these days). 2. Purchase th...

A900 and Tilt & Shift
David Kilpatrick in his A900 review in BJP was mentioning the lack of a Sony T&S lens as a minus and there is not even one in the known lens pipe-line. That reminded me of Geoffrey Crawley's Amateur Photographer (28/7/07) review of Hartblei's 35 mm F2.8 super-rotator perspective control lens, wh...

Re: 70-400G January 09
Greg Beetham wrote There doesn't seem to be much choice in quality superzooms above 300mm, there is the 200-500 Tamron and the 50-500 Sigma, the sigma being quite a bit more expensive than the Tamron but gets quite good reviews, the penalty is they are both slower than f5.6. being f6.3 I was looking...

Re: 70-400G January 09
I have been looking for a telephoto zoom for my A700/350 for some time, not being able to make up my mind. As I already have the Tamron 18-250 I am really looking for something longer but with a max. F stop of F5.6 at the long end. The SAL 70-400 F4-5.6 would seem to fit the bill here so I might wai...

Re: Minolta MD Lenses modified on A900?
Thanks for your comments David. Just what I thought when I saw these converters on ebay and that is why I did not purchase one. I was wondering if one of the MD/MA converters without glass would make my MD 50 mm F3.5 makro lens usable on my A700 & 350 although it would not focus on infinity. It ...

Re: Minolta MD Lenses modified on A900?
Interesting question posed by aformaphoto. I went from MD to digital through R1 to now A700/350. I still have all my MD lenses including the 50 mm F3.5 macro and Sigma 70-210 F2.8 APO. I would love to use particularly the macro and have looked at some of the MD/MA converters available on ebay, but n...

Re: A900 vs... Hasselblad H3 and Mamyia AFDIII
Reference Sonolta's info on the Fuji F30/31 I am a great admirer of Fuji's Super CCD technology. My family still use two E900 cameras and I have one spare. I used them for Alamy when I could not bring along my X700. As long as I kept myself to ISO100 & RAW they sailed through, but sometimes I re...
