I used a cheap (=free) soft cover. The screen spends 90% of it's life facing the camera in any case. The protection is mainly required for damage I may do when wiping finger prints off the screen!

Re: Polarising filters
I still use one fairly regularly for separating cloud and sky where one is forced to have a bright sky. But yes, the need for them is tending to go away, except for controlling non-metallic reflections.
I rarely use my ND grads these days.

Re: Good RAW processing program for Sony files
Hi Ron I currently use LightRoom 4.1 RC2 + CS2 (which would be similar to your photoshop). Works well, but I found LR a steep learning curve. I got a copy of Michael Reichmann's Advanced Guide to LR 4. LR 4.1 is currently available as a Release Candidate for free until further notice. http://labs.ad...

Well, I don't care how you did it, but that is one fascinating image.

Re: alpha 77?
Hi Mike I'm a landscape person, similar subjects to your work I'd say. I went from a KM D7D (which I love) to the A77. I found the change-over frustrating because, not only did I have to change my handling of the camera, I also had to change my raw conversion software, and in fact ended up changing ...

The reflection in the water needs to be nearer vertical; in fact if the flagpole and reflection are about equal and opposite the angle would be just right. Otherwise this exposure is exceptionally good!

Re: Photographers: you’re being replaced by software
It depends on your attitude whether you regard this as a threat or an opportunity. For me my landscape work is as much about being out there and at one with nature as it is about producing good images. I would welcome software like Blender in that it would probably add to the enjoyment of post proce...

Re: Any a57 users here?
I might consider the A57 because I'm finding the A77 GPS is no better than the A55 and sometimes much worse - latest helper data uploaded, it took half an hour before it got the first reading in Dubrovnik last month. GPS was supposed to be improved with each model... David My impression is that the...

Re: Watercolour Look
Wow Peter  - what a great way to restart this thread! I really like that picture. I'm not sure I would have seen that as coming from a photograph at all. Can you share some at least of how you did it? A bit of deja vu here - the answer as to how it is done was covered previously in this same...

Re: Watercolour Look
Well - its been 18 months now without any further activity in this Effects and Art Techniques Forum. So I thought that is about time that I add another image, to possibly pique the interest of the artsy photographers out there. This is entitled "Last House on Main Street". regards - Peter ...

Thanks for this - I downloaded a copy and within half an hour had already applied two tweeks that I had not noticed before.

Re: GPS?
The GPS appears in the imbedded metedata. Clicking it in LightRoom takes you to the spot in Google Maps. The impression is that it uses more battery, but so far its not a real problem.

Re: A77 Ver 1.04
I notice one bug that has been fixed in 1.04. Previously the battery level only showed in the EVF when the LCD screen info was set to all - i.e. it didn't show in the EVF when the LCD screen was set to histogram for instance although the EVF was supposed to be showing all settings. This is now corre...
