So what's the point of quarter- and semi finals and so on in sports then? And sometimes they compete over several weeks, not on the same day! My bad, checked now and the poll can be designed so that the user can vote for several images. But this can make the voter lazy and vote for five submissions instead of really thinking hard over which one really is _the_ best.
