from the forums that I read it seems that noticeably more Canon shooters are being tempted to the A7/A7R than Nikon users.
I suppose that was to be expected as Nikon users already have the Sony 24 & 36MP sensors in native mount bodies (albeit somewhat larger).

Re: Is lens manufacturing a money losing business
To Heidfirst, we still have some lenses that have had their R&D paid for a long time ago. The 70-200mm is a Minolta design and the II version added only coatings and a new AF motor, so there isn't any real reason for the price premium on that and I didn't read any information about sealing eith...

Re: Is lens manufacturing a money losing business
The actual manufacture and assembly of lenses is going to vary. Higher end ones have better quality components and more elements possibly the material cost is more no question, but it's not as much as you might expect either. It's pretty obvious that the higher priced lenses attract better margins,...

I think that you will find that Sony's camera division is in a better position than Panasonic's.classiccameras wrote:Greg
You could say the same about Panasonic which is another large global electronics company who also make cameras, only difference is their camera division is doing quite well by camparison to Sony.

Thom Hogan's take http://www.dslrbodies.com/newsviews/theyre-not-going-to-be.html It's also worth reading http://www.dslrbodies.com/newsviews/the-new-nikon.html - possibly the most telling part imo is " what I see is that people are buying a US$100 less expensive camera with fewer features and ...

Re: Canon EOS 70D announced
Any body got views on the new shortly to be released Olympus E-M1. From pictures on 4/3 rumour sites it is still small like the OM-D although some people are saying its bigger, it looks like it will only accept 4/3 lenses via an adaptor and its also rumoured to be a sub £700 camera. I thought that ...

Re: Canon EOS 70D announced
Just looked at the Nikon product site for listed cameras (presumed current) D7100, D5200 and D3200 definitely 24.1Mp D3100 14.2Mp D5100 16.2Mp D7000 16.2Mp D300S 12.3Mp D90 12.3Mp Maybe Nikon have forgotten to remove these sub 24.1Mp cameras or perhaps they are still offering the odd one below 24.1...

Re: Canon EOS 70D announced
but Canon screwed up big time by having the camera announced, and not being able to buy it for months on end. Last I checked Amazon had a pre order date in stock on 25th October, as of today that's over 2 months. Way too long for any actual product to be available for sale. Park Cameras are expecti...

Re: Going backwards - A580
I am surprised to hear that Sony doesn't have a stabilized EVF view. What is the reason for that? The E-M5 has a configuration option for stabilized or not stabilized view. I use the stabilized option and it works great. For stills the sensor is only actively stabilised during the exposure hence th...

Re: SLT or Mirrorless and Tilt effect
What I am getting at, is it possible to have a tilt effect with the sensor (shift is not possible, I guess)? That is, what if we could control a slight angle deviation of the sensor from its initial plane, regarding the optical axis. And you could obviously visualize it in your EVF. don't Pe...

Re: Updates to RX100 and RX1
It's not just Sony clearly margins are higher on these models than budget compacts or DSLR's I think they're all milking it a bit, but hey fire away at that price I think it's too pricey. indeed as afaik the UK MSRP is meant to be £650 so it appears that the retailers are milking the early adopters...

it's an SSM lens so that shouldn't be an issue as it has DMF.Aart Roest wrote:

Tamron were Sony's biggest supplier including most of the CZ zooms, Do you have any evidence that Tamron made the Zeiss zooms? Afaik nobody that knows has talked as to where the ZAs are made other than that they are made in Japan. Certainly Canon, Nikon & Pentax have alsoo outsourced at least p...

Certainly for longer lens users I don't see CSCs replacing DSLRs.
