Re: RX100 is better than a77 :)
I can get by with 28mm and have done the same thing in the past, even stitching with Microsoft ICE for quite a while before PS got better at it. About the only time I really need 24mm on a compact is when in indoors taking quick shots of people or a small group where I couldn't back up any farther. ...

Re: RX100 is better than a77 :)
OK, I have some confusion here. I just looked at Pako's and alphaomega's two links and the cyberscholar page says "newly developed" 24mm while the Sony Make Believe page says 28-100mm. The Sony page gives resolution and megapixel breakdowns and shows 20MP image size as 5472×3648 at 3:2 but...

Re: RX100 is better than a77 :)
I don't need that camera. I don't need that camera. I don't need that camera... (I think I'm condemned to buy that camera... unless I buy a second NEX7) It's already too late for me. I preordered it right after I convinced myself that I didn't need it either. Goodbye, S100! It was fun, as were all ...

Re: Gary has NEX-7 book available now
You were in California recently? It's a small world! Last Saturday I participated in Gary's Field Workshop in Santa Monica, California. An interesting day well spent, IMO, as was his weekend classroom seminar that I took a few years ago. (I thought enough of that experience that I paid for my daugh...

Re: Comment on EVF
Thanks, Greg, truly irritating! The table in question is a garden table with a large sun-shade umbrella inserted into it. Unfortunately, the wind decided to blow a gust, toppling both the table and tripod, while I had popped indoors momentarily. Martin Murphy at work... Hope it ends up not being to...

Re: Sigma's new HSM 12-24mm DG II
Some good news. Just checked 16mm with the UWA converter on Nex7 - no purple shift to talk about, merely a few percent lower green wrt red/blue in the corners, essentially unnoticeable. Corner smear is there as expected, need to crop by 1.25 to cut the smear off. So altogether it makes a good enoug...

Re: Wide and normal lens for A900
Yes, I forgot the 24-85 was a good one. I had that one also but the 28-75 outclassed it. It's only problem was that it didn't go to 24mm which I really like. I only do APS-C now and have the CZ16-80 and like that range better than any of the others, otherwise I would still probably have the 28-75. I...

Re: Comment on EVF
I love the comments about the English longbows vs the French crossbows. But I guess Don doesn't realize that even crossbows have come a long way since then (like the EVF) and even have fast multishot capability (like the EVF). Re: Sigma's new HSM 12-24mm DG II
agorabasta, Thanks for raising my awareness of this issue. I realize I've seen these distractions many times before but never really properly identified them for what they were. I guess because it really didn't matter so much. I had become vaguely aware of Cornerfix from other readings but never pur...

I see what you mean. My misunderstanding. But that would seem even easier to fix. Does this seem an improvement?

Re: Sigma's new HSM 12-24mm DG II
The problem with SEL16 on Nex7 is that there's a considerable purple shift in the corners, much like what you get with rangefinder WA's. Even if you correct it with some 'cornerfix', you lose a great deal of DR and colour fidelity in the corrected corners. But I didn't check if the 12mm UWA adapter...

Re: Sigma's new HSM 12-24mm DG II
I haven't tried the 8-16mm Sigma on the NEX, mainly because my latest 16mm pancake seems better or equal at 16mm and the adaptor for 12mm is more convenient. I've got problems with the last set of shots taken on the A77 and 8-16mm. In January, I was getting good sharp images across the frame but di...

Re: A77 versus Full frame
[ctually, I wonder why they didn't go with a leaf shutter in mirrorless models. Leica even put them in it's S2 line-up, albeit as additional shutters in the lenses. They could have incorporated them into the body as the old TLR cameras did. You then can get flash sync at any speed! Dusty I've alway...

I would love to see this test performed with Canikons. Somebody please send one to Magnar.Magnar Fjortoft wrote:The surprise is the A77.
