Re: Lenses!

It's not that most have a long list of lenses that we expect to be there, but that there are half a dozen quite important lenses that are not in the line up, which should be. Big problems for Sony are... - No current up to date UWA zoom lens, it's kinda insulting to buyers to ask £500 for a lens as...

Re: Lenses!

Situation remains the same for Sony regardless of A or E Mount, if you don't have a suitable system for people they won't be buying your lenses. Sony neglected A mount with some obvious problems on pricing too (they've had 8 years to get this done and have a big cheque book) Sony knows how their le...

Re: Lenses!

Its all down to the individual really, what lens range suits one person doesn't always suit another. Well, of course. In another thread, I asked what lens, specifically, was missing from the lineup? No response, of course. If everyone listed their idea of what was missing you'd probably have a diff...

Re: 18-105G -- Good or Great?

Got the lens first sight when I saw one. Superb build quality like 10-18 but....it is too large. The zooming are maded for video shooting so it is very tricky to zoom it in a proper way. I gave it to my brother very soon. It looks the ultimate Nex camera's zoom is 16-70 It's a lot more expensive, t...

Re: Lenses!

Sony's been at this DSLR gig for, what, 8 years? And they had whatever left over from Minolta. If they still can't make what you want, what have you been doing all this time? I figure many people have been using Minolta, Tamron, and Sigma lenses, like I have, but I dunno. Seems like torture to see t...

Re: Lenses!

With the 16mm or 20mm primes for e-mount, you can add a Sony UWA adapter which will bring the 16mm to a 12mm. That's something I don't think I ever would have ended up trying with a-mount. However, some people don't like the quality of the 16mm, so YMMV. As for 300mm lenses, I have the 100-300APO, w...

Re: 18-105G -- Good or Great?

I'm not sure why anyone would be dumb enough to make a non compact lens for a compact system camera, but evidently Sony did (yes we get the reason for that on a 70-200mm lens internal zooming) it makes a lot less sense on this type of lens though. Others can decide if it is dumb or not, but Sony ha...

Re: 18-105G -- Good or Great?

The market isn't really speaking very little impact on ILC systems in the EU and USA for some reason buyers don't get it..and honestly I don't get it either There is a disruption as in attracting people's attention in a good way, and one akin to turning up at a party uninvited, drunk and making as ...

Re: 18-105G -- Good or Great?

The 18-135mm is an extended lens design, closed it's about the same size as the Tamron 17-50mm Adding the adapter to the 17-50, it's about the same size on my camera as the 18-105G. I'm not sure why anyone would be dumb enough to make a non compact lens for a compact system camera, but evidently So...

Re: 18-105G -- Good or Great?

Perhaps it was a joke? Or is there a reason you can't have a 6x zoom on a Nex? Does it violate the law of A-mount users, that only they are allowed to have substantial lenses?

I posted this photo to DPR:

I haven't had a chance to photograph in really good light, so just about everything has been f4 so far!

Re: 18-105G -- Good or Great?

....In terms of bang per buck many of the A mount lenses are staggeringly cheap (even some well respected ones) and certainly cheaper than Canikon offerings. Even the old classics continue to tumble in price I didn't pay a lot for the 70-210mm or the 28-85mm or 35-70mm they're even cheaper now. Fun...

Re: 18-105G -- Good or Great?

If you are tied down to a budget on A mount there are always Minolta lenses to look for, this is the only reason I stay with A mount. Yeah, and Minolta lenses were always good bang-for-the-buck deals anyway. Now, it's like they fly under the radar, with everyone looking for Canikon or more snooty b...

Re: 18-105G -- Good or Great?

One advantage I can think of that I don't see other people mention is that with some photos, you might not mind the distortion and you can dial in less correction and perhaps gain additional resolution in the process. I agree. Recently I used the 16-50mm at 16mm to take some people pics in the tour...

Re: 18-105G -- Good or Great?

I'm not sure I can agree with that strategy surely it's best to try to get as good as you can optics wise off the bat, so to speak? Well, yes but that is rather purist! All lens designs have to be a compromise. As well as reducing cost, reducing the amount of glass reduces weight and size, which is...
