Re: knowing when to say when

Henry wins. People versus icicles, people win. All we have on our beaches here in Scotland is a load of wetsuited masochist surfers trying to beat the North Sea at -1C (river frozen, sea still liquid, human being just plain nuts!). A week or two ago in the Honolulu newspaper there was a story and a...

Re: knowing when to say when

Except for sales for commercial (non-editorial) use, US Courts have generally upheld the right to take and publish photos taken where people don't have "a reasonable expectation of privacy". In other words, if you aren't invading their private property, or putting cameras in bathrooms, th...

Re: Hibiscus...hibiscus..hibi...

Yes, warm here. I walk to the beach and swim everyday. There are hibiscus flowers everywhere. Just a few days ago I was walking down by the beach and someone had made a heart of old hibiscus blossoms and left them there for me to find: http://www.bakubo.com/galleries/Hawaii/Hawaii%206/slides/DSC0378...

I think I like 2 and 5 the best. Good work! We have lots of hibiscus here in Hawaii too, in fact it is the state flower.

Re: Arizona Landscapes

Yeah, it is the scenery, hiking, and photography that I like about Sedona. The commercial side, which has grown a lot over the years, turns me off. In 2007 my wife and I were on one of our long road trips and stayed in Sedona for several days. Of course, if you can you can get up to Zion NP, Bryce C...

Re: CD OR NOT TO CD

An alternative that you might consider is using external hard disks. I haven't saved my photos to CD in quite a few years. I bought my first external hard disk in 2003 and since then I have bought 3 more. I back up my photos to them and it is so much easier and they are all available on one disk wit...

Re: Sigma 12-14mm &A900 at reculver

My favorite is #1. Very nice. A year or two ago I saw the 1955 English movie The Dam Busters about the development of the bouncing bombs and their use to destroy German dams during WWII: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046889/ Here is a short documentary clip with some archival footage of the testing o...

I like that last one the best. Very nice.

Yeah, Sedona is a beautiful place. Been there several times.

I like it. When were you in Marrakech? I spent about a month traveling in Morocco in 2006 and thought it was cool. Spent time in Marrakech, of course.

Re: Hi from Edinburgh

Welcome, Leslie! I understand that Edinburgh is a very picturesque city so if you feel like branching out and taking other kinds of photos you are in a good place. Also, since you like taking photos of people you might also try some street photography.

Re: knowing when to say when

She doesn't mind that I would take pictures of strangers, or even pretty ladies, but that it might invade their privacy to upload their picture. As you might guess since I like people/street photography, this is something I have thought about for quite a few years. It is up to each photographer wha...

Re: Backfocus difference between Sigma and Minolta 50/1.4

No, unfortunately it's only one single adjustment value per lens (for up to 30 lenses). So if I'm changing the aperture from, say, f/1.4 to f/8 on the 50 mm lens then I have to go into the menu and change the AF adjustment value manually. It's a tedious procedure---but at least I can do something a...

Re: Backfocus difference between Sigma and Minolta 50/1.4

On my A900 body, my AF 50 mm 1:1.4 requires an AF micro-adjustment value of -2 at full aperture but -7 at f/8; the focus shift is not even between f-stops, the strongest shift occurs between f/4 and f/5.6. I have an A700 so I don't know the details of how the A900 (or Nikon or Canon) AF micro-adjus...

Re: knowing when to say when

Good catch! :) A few days ago when the dude wearing the red thong swimming suit came walking toward me I was talking with my wife as we walked along and didn't have my camera ready. Fortunately, I got one shot before he got too far away. Actually, I am not sure I really want a photo of his pouch out...
