Re: A58 Review

Sony have had pretty small [SLT] DSLR's for some time now in the form of A33/55/35/37. It will be interesting to see just how well the new Canon 100D sells. The new Nikon's such as the D3200 are not really that small by comparison. Barry, what did you not like about the Pentax K-5, I think I read so...

Re: A57 Jpeg engine...

Excellent pictures to high light the noise differences in both modes. It looks like RAW is the way to go. I'm not sure what Sony are up to. its almost as if they don't trust us with an 'off' switch. Yes, most reviews of the A57 said Jpegs were improved with a tad more noise adjustment than older mod...

Re: A58 Review

I see your point with Pentax, I had a Kr for a while and it performed OK. Most of what I said was taken from a Pentax open day at my local dealer where I suspect there was some biased views and sales pitch from Pentax UK, but then you would get the same from all the others. A good indication is the ...

Re: A58 Review

Agree about new improvements or detriments mean different things to different people. My pet thing is image quality and colour rendering. In the Ephotozine review yes, they said there was better detail and performance because of the higher pixel count etc. but they could not bring themselves to offe...

Re: A58 Review

Read the new review on the A58 by Ephotozine. Picture quality, not stunning, not fantstic, not excellent, just 'good'. Overall score was pretty decent but it does not match their review of the A37 which gained their essential award.

Re: A58 Review

DxOmark are in my opinion being used as the 'glasses' guide in the camera ratings war. I have never taken their findings that seriously as in most cases real world IQ is not always reflected in their scores. Agree about What Digital Camera reviews, they can sit on the fence and arrive at crazy score...

A58 Review

Just read the review of the A58 in What Digital Camera, In a nut shell its IQ is not as good as the 2 cameras it replaces, A37/57.

Re: No A78 this year according to SAR

Only a guess, but I suspect Sony will drop the SLT system on future A mount DSLR's and use NEX technology for all cameras. I say this because NEX tech has a future road map, SLT is doubtful.

Re: 18-55mm Kit lens v 18-70mm

I read in some of Kurt Munger's lens reviews that he aknowledges the fact that the sample he is testing may not be a good example. Photozone.de liked the Sony SAM 18-55 kit len with the exception of the build quality and plastic mount. Absolutely agree about the Pentax kit lenses and even some furth...

Re: 18-55mm Kit lens v 18-70mm

I agree with Barry, the Jpegs I get from my D5100 & 18-105 and my old D5000, [same sensor as the D90 and regret selling it] were superb right across the board, only beaten in my opinion by my old Olympus E-510 and E-450 cameras, apart from other issues with the older Olympus cameras, their Jpegs...

Re: An adventure in Full-Frame

David Kurt Munger reviewed the KM Minolta 17-35 D F/2.8 [made by Tamron] and he found it an excellent performer and he said it was a better performer than the more Expensive 17-35 G F/3.5 model. The only problem he found and I for that matter is a very non effectual lens hood, the lens was prone to ...

Re: Sony Support/Service - My opinion

I concur with Bary, I wonder if this a a design fault on the A57 or an isolated problem that you were very unfortunate to experience. For the sake of all A57 users. I hope its not.

Re: New Canon EOS 100D

From what I understand, reading the 4thirds forum, Panasonic are the real force in CSC world. They lead Olympus by quite a margin in most model sales. For some reason, Olympus always seem to price their products way to high and have never really been that competative. The OM-D is never going to be a...

Re: New Canon EOS 100D

Hi David That's a very interesting summery, I have to agree with you re Nikon. Canon in comparison are doing reasonably well globaly. The CCD Kodak sensor in my old Oly E-500 [which I no longer have] was absolutely superb for colour rendition and low noise. The current crop of Olympus cameras such a...
