Re: 30 Keys to Stock Photography

Excellent article David, I have benefited from your guidance in Stock Photography over the years, though my rewards have been much more modest! - Folks probably don't realise how much work is involved in taking and keywording Stock and just how many photos you have to have in the libraries to get a ...

Re: Alpha 580 review is now up

David, Seasons Greetings, I appreciate the excellent reviews, probably the most trusted on the net. I was not sure what my current subscription status was, I think I cancelled the automatic PayPal subscription as I hate those automatic things that catch me out. I have been receiving the printed maga...

Re: Concert Photography

Thanks Frank, I much appreciate and value your critique. By the way, I apologise if you are getting a pop-up copyright box appearing over each slide, this is something that just started happening in Zenfolio recently, a bug I think. Hopefully they will fix it soon. Next time I get a chance to shoot ...

Re: Observation on updated firmware for A900/A850

Thanks Frank, great use of high ISO on the A900. I'll try 3200 next time and see how it processes!

Re: Observation on updated firmware for A900/A850

Precisely, I honestly doubt they will see any difference. I am satisfied with the A900 up to ISO 1600 at present anyway. Sure there are better low noise sensors out there, but for my needs it is fine.

Re: Observation on updated firmware for A900/A850

What generally happens is, a new version of firmware comes out, then people who sometimes never use high ISO because they don't often need it, try it out and immediately see an improvement (over what they remember), or they actually have an improvement only because they are using a new version of so...

Re: Observation on updated firmware for A900/A850

Hi Frank, I shot with the A900 version 2 firmware on Saturday evening in a restaurant using between ISO 800 and 1600, sometimes using the tiny add-on flash HVL-20AM as a bounce from a dark pitched ceiling. The place was heated by halogen infrared electric fires which gave a red/orange glow to everyt...

Re: Observation on updated firmware for A900/A850

Frank, are you metering Spot or Multisegment in those tests? Highly unlikely that Sony have done anything that they have not documented though. It seems that every time a new firmware version is released even though it only supposedly fixes some unrelated things, people test high ISO and can see a d...

Re: Concert Photography

Thanks for the comments, it has been a while since I posted here, but mainly because I have not been taking a lot of very interesting photos, just routine scenic holiday stuff. I also have been playing with rangefinder photography with an M8 quite a bit. Yes, all were hand held, but I could use abou...

Concert Photography

I did my first concert on Friday, actually a dimly lit club where my Niece and nephew were performing live in their band "The Industry". I bumped into a music journalist who had turned up without his photographer, so offered to take some photos for his review of a couple of the bands. Shot...

Re: Leaving stuff behind

Possibly considering the Dell Mini 10v netbook to install OSX Hackintosh. Apparently it works very well. Note it has to be the 10v model not the 10 which does not work with Hackintosh.

Re: Leaving stuff behind

Hello David, Hope you are feeling better, at least you are not stuck at an airport due to the volcano eruption. 5Kg is much too tight isn't it? - Did they actually weigh the carry on bags? - I confess to almost always taking more than the weight limit, but stick rigidly to the size limits. I am now ...
