Re: Sony Lens Quality-
The bit about ".....your skills in using them" I agree with. But that is not relevant to my original post that Sony has not kept pace with the competition I was like that before. But then realised that as Sony's market share is much smaller, it's unlikely that they would invest as much mo...

Re: Sony Lens Quality-
As both Canon & Nikon have both released (very good) new versions of their 70-200/2.8, I guess Sony now has some pressure to make a new one too.

Recent reviews of Sony optics have revealed that they are merely adequate performers: Sony 70-200: http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/sony_70-200_2p8_m15/page5.asp Nikon 70200 VRII:http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/nikon_70-200_2p8_vrii_n15/page5.asp CZ 16-35: http://www.photozone.de/sonyalphaff...

Re: Sony 30mm f/2.8
I've used a series of the Minolta 100mm macros since the early ones in MC mount. While even the original was very good, there have been minor improvements along. The 1986 version is way back there now. I don't recommend earlier than the Minolta D version or the Sony. Very significant improvement in...

Re: I think you should take a look at the review of new Nikon ..
Dpreview has just posted the review for the new 70-200 VR II. For my taste this is very impressive lens : http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/nikon_70-200_2p8_vrii_n15/page5.asp I'm not a fan of zoom lens, but its abilities at 200mm are really good on the 24mp sensor. Kind of lens that is probably ...

Re: Two new SLR lenses a PMA 2010
Its just that I would have thought that lenses like the CZ 18 mm or 21 mm would have added something more than a 24 mm however good it turns out to be. Sony is already selling the rebadged Minolta 20/2.8, which is old but not bad. But the 24mm slot was empty until now. My own personal hope was for ...

Re: Two new SLR lenses a PMA 2010
Just as an aside, I am going to say: 30mm f/2.8. This is one fantastic little lens. I have been shooting with it for a week, and it's been giving me some of the sharpest snapshots I've ever had. So if 35mm f/2 and 85mm f/2.8 SAM lenses appeared, even built to the same lightweight cheap quality, Son...

Would they be FF or APS-C ?Javelin wrote:Sony Alpha rumors mentions a 35 F2 SAM and an 85 F2.8 SAM
I think 2.8 is too dark for a 85mm, unless it's a macro

Re: Sony's New Patent
OK, this design has got me curious. A lens is now ordered and on the way. Unlike the 50mm f/1.8, this is something new and I had not really understood how new. There has never been a macro lens for an SLR which is as short as 30mm yet can focus to infinity. Also, Sony state 2cm close focus - meanin...

Re: Sony's New Patent
That's the 30mm f/2.8 SAM macro lens - retrofocus macro design with moving front group only. A conventional 30mm macro is impossible with a back focus around 40mm (the practical limit of placing a rear element in the Alpha system). So they designed one built like a wide angle, but not actually wide...

Re: Sony's New Patent
On more, this time about macro lenses: http://www.google.com/patents?id=i5zIAAAAEBAJ&zoom=4&pg=PA1#v=onepage&q=&f=false For a while, I thought Sony was mostly towards licensing designs from Zeiss & Tamron. It seems that Sony actually also does R&D on their own about lenses, i...

Re: More from Gustav on Sony Alpha in 2010
Gustav also predicts that 2010 will also be a big year for Alpha lens introductions by Sony, eight or ten lenses. This seems to be in concurrence with other predictions. It appears that they will include the 500 f4, and either a CZ 18mm, or a CZ 24mm, or a 200mmG. This means that Sony has been ramp...
