Re: How to change cRAW timestamp?

The latest version of ExifTool (i. e. version 8.04) now can write ARW files. Give it a try!

Try discarding rule #1. I have a few nice signs in my archive ... and so have many others I guess.

Re: 2010 Sony predictions!

Doh ... just why do grown-up persons feel inclined to post endless lists of silly "predictions" about non-existant cameras?

Re: Beercan lore

Sorry Olaf - by radical I did not mean extreme (as in the political use today). I just meant radical - i.e. basic, essential, root, source ... "Radically different/reworked" = based on a different root, reworked from the grounds up, created after different design principles. The Minolta A...

Re: SONY A900 Memory card Feedback

What do you think about this 6 GB card? Is it fast enough for shooting RAW+JPG on the A900? Yes, it is ... provided you don't want to shoot prolonged series at 5 fps repeatedly in quick succession. When shooting normally, i. e. single frames or occasional bursts of two or three frames then it's fas...

Re: Beercan lore

... the 70-210mm f/4 was a radical rework of the earlier MD design ... I am pretty sure the Minolta AF 70-210 mm 1:4 lens (a.k.a. "Beercan") is optically identical to its immediate predecessor, the MD 70-210 mm 1:4 lens, or only a minor rework at most. Both use the old-style tele zoom des...

Re: SONY A900 Memory card Feedback

The only card failure I ever encountered was with the first memory card that I bought in Spring 2005 for my then-new Dynax 7D---a SanDisk CF Extreme III 1 GB. It failed fifteen minutes after having started to use it for the first time. I returned it for a replacement and never had any problems since...

Re: Do you always want a low distortion UWA?

My point is that I wonder if they consider this when designing a lens and intentionally allow it to distort? For people and some other things a "distorted" view gives a more natural look to people than an "undistorted" view. Yes indeed. As a matter of fact, any decent wide-angle...

Re: How to change cRAW timestamp?

I keep my camera's clock set to UTC so I don't have to change it for daylight savings time or when traveling. You have confused me here. Are you saying that I can go back and adjust my 65 files by doing this? Please explain further because I don't understand how this helps me solve the problem at h...

Re: More terrible sky noise with A700

I my case I had horrendous noise on dark out of focus backgrounds even at ISO 200 ! For some reason it only happened with shots taken with flash. Adrian, are these shots taken as in-camera JPEGs with DRO set to a medium or high level? I guess the background is seriously under-exposed (as it is typi...

Re: 24-85mm Minolta

I sold my AF 24-105 mm which had been a regular companion on the A100-700 models. [...] It simply was not good enough for full frame - really strong barrel distortion at 24 mm, and the worst CA of any lens I had. David, I think your copy of the AF 24-105 (D) was below par. Maybe you should try anot...

Re: a850 and DT lenses

I was told at both the store where I eventually bought the camera AND at PhotoPlus Expo that the APS crop feature could be turned OFF completely and that is apparently incorrect. They had both said that I would be able to shoot and later crop off the objectionable vignette portion. Prior to your bu...

Re: Just bought 2 Minolta Lens

... also decided to give myself another box to open on 25th, so ended up with a Minolta AF 17-35 mm f/2.8-4 (D) as well. I note the 17-35 is reported to be a little soft, but not being a pixel peeping pro, it'll probably be just fine for me. In my opinion, the Minolta AF 17-35 mm 1:2.8-4 (D) is no ...

... but few really need 10 fps. Actually, many do. Especially when it comes in an affordable package. Apart from that, what's your problem anyway? No-one will force you to keep shooting at 10 fps all the times. ... IMO it's a poor trade to get AF in video by giving up the OVF. And just why do you k...

Re: SONY ALPH A A750

Not unlikely? Sounds barmy if you ask me. Sounds you are quite narrow-minded if you ask me. I would not expect 10fps for the A700 class, that's pure press photog territory ... If even a beginner's camera like the A550 has 7 fps these days then why cannot a semi-pro camera like the A700 successor of...
