Minolta 28-135 v Sony 18-70

I have an Alpha 100 and mostly use a 28-135 Minolta lens. It is sharp and contrasty and appears to have little distortion. But I very much miss having the equivalent of a 28mm on 35mm film and the 28-135 has a minimum focussing distance of about 5 feet (ignoring the fairly useless macro setting at 2...

GIMP

How does the GIMP photo editing software compare functionally with Photoshop? Photoshop is clearly better presented but are they functionally similar?

I hadn't realised such negative behaviour happened inthis forum.
And your filter certainly works even to the extent it modifiesd the N word in my post to the N* word!

Thanks very much for the advice.
But I read it too late for the visit so used the on camera flash but mostly no flash.
Results mixed. Depth of field was a big problem!
Will go back with the benefit of the advice.

This flash works fine on my 700si but will it work properly without harming my Alpha 100? I'm going to Lancaster butterfly house tomorrow and the weather forecast is for the rain to continue so the light levels are likely to be low. I should like to take my non flash RAW pictures using a high ISO se...

Thanks for your reply. I could be tempted to try the Lyson continuous ink system but whenever I look into what inks work best with the R1800 there are warnings that using compatibles is akin to using parafin to fuel a Ferrari! Lyson's web site looks reassuring to me that they offer good quality prod...

All the cartridges are the correct colour and type - I have double checked. The fault is intermittent and driving me mad. Should I clean the contacts between printer and cartridges? Would it be worthwhile cleaning the print head and if so how is that done? As an aside I don't know my word "dodg...

Epson R1800 problem

Despite doggie-doo weather have taken some OK pictures on my Alpha 100. Tried to print them on my R1800 and for first time got message "inks not recognised" with a list of my ink cartridges. I can't get beyond that message in that if I click"OK" the printer head shuffles around a...

Photoshop CS RAW plugin

Is there a plugin for CS? If so where can I get it? Googling has not found me anything and the Adobe and Sony sites are not helpful in this respect.
I know CS3 supports Sony Alpha RAW but money is tight!

Epson R1800 printer settings

I have received advice about DEC settings, for which I am grateful, but moving on to printing my question re my R1800 concerns colour settings. Questions 1 Is it better to use Epson vivid or standard? Or is it just a matter of taste or fitting the choice to subject?I assume Adobe RGB is not advised ...

Jettec inks in our Epson 950 managed to leak and ruin the printer. They are about the best quality third party make, but there is still a big risk. I would stick to Permajet, Lysonic etc. Are you sure that a CIS for R1800 will cost you £300? Seems a lot to me. They are usually £150-200. David Got t...

Jettec pigment inks for Epson R1800

Very specific question. Can anyone offer an opinion about the quality of Jettec pigment inks for use in an R1800? Or advise another good quality 3rd party ink? I tried some Pro-Jet ink and its low price seems to equal low quality. Epson inks are very high cost bought by the cassette and I don't yet ...

Good morning and hello

Hello everyone. Short intro. from Jeff at Chorley in Lancashire, England. My photo interest goes back about 50 years to when I got a Retina 1A followed by a Hanimex rangefinder then A Rollei Auto. I mixed my own chemicals and enlarged in the kitchen. Then came motorbikes, drink, marriage and childre...
