Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

Back to the plastic mounts... Actually, I always wanted to change the mount on my a55 to full-metal one as that semi-plastic construction gave me too many problems. Obviously, both the LA-EA1&2 have great metal mounts on the A-side. So maybe some day I'll give my a55 a new mount and a new mirror...

Re: Interesting (?) DRO Observation

That must have been the 'intelligent auto' mode. You make adjustments/settings to ignore by the cam's 'brains'.

Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

Yes, screws can and will compress a plastic interface but no more so than they will the plastic body into which they have been screwed. That deformation must be at least twice as large if the front ring is made of the same kind of plastic as the rest parts of the mount. And it's really possible to ...

Re: NEX E-mount 20mm pancake & 18-200 power zoom

I just "don't need it", since I have the SEL 16f2.8 with both adapters, and the SEL 10-18 f4 Quien sabe, Pako... The problem with SEL16 was/is all about the internal reflections. You don't need to trust me, just have your SEL16 really close to a large HDTV screen looking at the screen at ...

Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

Just because a camera has a flange bayonet fishplate made of plastic doesn’t really qualify it as a plastic mount to the same degree as the replacement of the entire thing with plastic.... Sorry, Greg, but it does, and especially so considering the 'historical' aspect. The a55 had all but the front...

Barry, please stop that!
That's without the Nex market share, and it should be quite clear to you if you follow any market data on the matter!

Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

Maybe is mistake or they talk about for some internal parts of the mount, I don't know, but that is the info that I have directly quoted. Their text is a bit of quite intentional lie, then a bit of nonsense, then adds some plain ignorance, etc... Whoever cares what it really is?! Nonsense it is eit...

Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

All APS SLT's starting with a55/33 had a plastic mount with metal outer ring, those are 55, 33, 35, 65, 57, 37. The only exception is the a77 which has it all metal. Now even that last piece of metal is gone from the a58 model. The mount strength and precision were already unacceptable, and it becam...

We have been using plastic mounts to downsize and lessen weight since the α57.
That's not true. They have been using plastic mounts since a55/33.

Here I'd guess the rest of their 'answers' are of the same informative quality, a.k.a. plain garbage.

Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

Sure, Barry is completely right about the plastic mount. And I know it completely well from personal experience with a55 that was less plastic. And the total amateur crowd is also well exposed to heavier lenses, the older Sigma 18-250 OS HSM being one example. I actually think that any fully extende...

...not sure about the AA filter removal if that's a good idea. Appears to be very good from that particular sample - http://chsvimg.nikon.com/lineup/dslr/d7100/img/sample/img_05_l.jpg . Although the regular birefringent LPF may be not there, in doesn't mean that some lowpass filtering is not happen...

Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

Here's my idea of what they really are trying to do with that bastardly a58 - they try to not push the sensor speed too far, that's quite contrary to what they've been doing lately, so they take the cheapest approach to this clearly trial product intro. The real reason for high noise seen in the a77...

Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

The A58 is the first ever A-mount camera from Sony offering ‘TRILUMINOUS Colour’ experience a dramatically expanded palette of vivid, ultra realistic colours ….erm hold the bus, what is ultra-realistic? How do you get more realistic than realistic? They use that 'TRILUMINOS' thing in their TV's. Es...

Re: A58 coming with 20Mp and increased DR???

If the new 20Mp sensor is better at the shadow end then expose slightly towards the shadow end and gain more detail in the highlights. Nopsies! The primary source of noise is already the very photonic nature of light. So getting the best image quality with the given cam means stepping ISO as low as...

Re: A58 coming with 20Mp and increased DR???

No doubt the DR bit and the details in the shadow will interest Agorabasta. Maybe we don't need to move away from the bayer concept after all. Not yet, really... Just as Barry mentioned, it's all far too "a bit 'vague'" at the moment. Then keep in mind that Bayer is rather bad at DR as re...
