Re: 70-400G in Atlanta
I read an article about the best sharpening (sorry I don't remember where it was) by a couple of photographers. They compared several 3rd party sharpeners, plugins and standard USM. The consensus was that Focus Magic was the best. Looking over the images, I agreed with them, so I purchased it. I th...

Re: Trees of the American Southwest
Very nice! By the way, I don't detect any color that you added. I wonder if it is just the screen on my notebook? What color did you add?Bodak wrote:I've added just a tad of colour to the whites in the foreground.

Re: 70-400G in Atlanta
1. I used a level of 2 on Focus magic (the same level I use for the 70-200G...I use a 4 or 5 for my Tamron 200-500). I'd say it is as sharp at these apertures as the 70-200G (mind you that i have used this lens for all of 15 min.) I didn't know that Focus Magic could be used for routine sharpening....

Re: Snow
Nice ones, Philip. I particularly like the first one with the big rocks prominently in the foreground. Here is one of mine in Utah. Actually, I guess this one could go in the tree thread too. :) The look of the tree along with the snow appealed to me. http://www.bakubo.com/galleries/Nature/slides/CR...

Re: Trees of the American Southwest
Let's get some more photos! Here is a photo I took in 1986 at Point Lobos State Reserve, California. Let's see, this was made on slide film, Minolta X-700, and probably a Tokina 28mm f2.8 lens. And just for fun, a friend took the second photo of me a few minutes after I took the first photo. :) http...

Re: Snow
Kevin, that photo of yours really appeals to me. The snow is really coming down. No worries about it being film or an old camera. :) My photos were all taken on film too in 1991 using just a 35mm p&s using Fuji color print film. David, I like your photo a lot too and I think it is the two big tr...

Re: Snow
Javelin, it had snowed a lot during the night and all 3 photos were taken within a few minutes of each other in the morning.
Since it is still only February I am a bit surprised that no one but me has any winter snow photos. Come on, post away!

Snow
Let's post some winter scenes including snow. Everyone is welcome to post and I hope you do! And if you find another shot later you want to post then come back and post it too! This first photo is the view out the window of a 300 year old o-tera (Buddhist temple) turned into a minshuku (Japanese sty...

Re: Bibble 5 has arrived, sorta....
Tom, yes I am aware of PWP, but I didn't know it could be run on Linux with Wine. I bought PWP 3.5 for Windows in 2004 because I had heard good things about it and it was fully 16 bit. I have used it quite a bit, but not so much recently. I just don't like it. :( I have read the tutorials and read o...

Re: El cheapo strikes again! B&W headshots..
I love these kinds of threads that get people to all post some shots! :) I have many photos I could post, but I decided to go back to my early days of photography. :) This photo is my younger brother when he was 6 years old in 1974 and I was 17. I had only had my Mamiya/Sekor 1000 DTL for less than ...

Re: Challenge 4: Stir Crazy!
Yildiz, sounds good! David, I can understand the allure of living in an old house and leaving it much as it was decades ago. Certainly must make you sometimes wonder about past occupants' conversations, activities, and lives in the rooms. Any ghosts? :) Looking at the view out your window reminds me...

Re: APS-C Primes
The only APS-C prime lens I would buy is something like the new Nikon 35mm f1.8. I don't use my 50mm f1.7 much because it is too long for general use on my A700. I more often use a 24mm f2.8 when I want something small and more general to carry around. That is a bit wide though for this use so I wou...

Glad to see you posting some photos here! All 3 are just wonderful, but #3 is my favorite. You caught a wonderful expression on his face.

Yildiz, that is making me hungry -- it is almost lunchtime here. Nice photo! What are the foods you show in your photo?
