Re: DSLR-A330, A330L, and A330Y
I just happend to pick up a copy of Photographic Trader off the news stand (it's a local thing, full of camera gear of all ages and description for sale) and in the centre there is a full page ad for a store sale, announcing, MASSIVE SONY CLEARANCE!!! things in the list include A700 long lens kit, ...

Re: Any news on new Alphas?
They clearly have not removed the AF motor. The cameras are cosmetically modified A200-300s, taking a different card format (SD or MSPD we do not know yet) and with HDMI output. No big deal really. David The big if is MS only or MS and SD. Myself, I don't care if MS is there, but if it's the only m...

Re: DSLR-A330, A330L, and A330Y
I was just wondering if we needed "3" hand holding newbie DSLR's, seems a bit of overkill IMO. One maybe, I could understand it, 2 possibly for the LV aspect..but 3 is pushing things. Resources better spend on an A500 IMO. Using a DSLR requires users to put some effort in, I remain unconvi...

Re: Nikon D5000 video action
I won't defend Ms Weir work, but "Mark Weir" is just a name. I mean, I don't think he decide anything at Sony, even if he might have a "voice" at the Sony DSRL headquarters. I had the chance to speak with some people at KonikaMinolta years ago and the impression I had is that Ja...

Re: DSLR-A330, A330L, and A330Y
All I can say is Kevin, thank the lord that KM decided to put a "real grip" on the 5d, rather than copy the small, uncomfortable and weedy film 5 design. I dislike that grip (and it's on the 4) more than any other camera I have held. I don't care what sony put into these models, or what im...

Re: DSLR-A330, A330L, and A330Y
The other problem spotted ;-) The location of the front jog dial is at the top part of the grip, well the sculpted part. This is not the same concept as the dial on the 5 or 60. That dial sits where your AF assist light is on the A700/Film 7 etc. It looks odd, but "it does work ok". It wor...

Re: Nikon D5000 video action
Well hang on a moment Javelin. I do use film "for some stuff" I do use digital too. No problems if folks want to call me more traditional, I am! But consider this, most folks I meet outside of the dp forums (yeah the real world) are not gagging for video..not at all, neither are they despe...

Re: DSLR-A330, A330L, and A330Y
Exposure mode dials??
Film 5 style grips.
Boy am I glad I got the A200! I HATE with a passion the film 5 grip, I have one, it sucks!
Not sure what sony are up to..I told you they do the exact reverse of what I like, in an effort to stop me using sony!

Re: Nikon D5000 video action
The sample looked pretty good to me. But the baffle thing shows that the video aspect is not really being looked at with great care on the SLR's. Video appears right now as a tack on feature. I probably would play about with it, but still, I think it's a distraction from making improvements to a sti...

Re: The Sony "high ISO" thing.
Well for me one of the great uses of digital is the high ISO element. Add the SSS/AS to the mix and we have potent tools for low light work. You are right, few did shoot over ISO 400 film, but for me at least..this is one reason I have some interest in digital. I couldn't really care much about the ...

Re: Tamron 10-24mm F3.5-4.5 DI-II LD (IF) Review
I just hope sony don't re-badge this tamron lens. About time they made their own UWA zoom, or threw some money at Tokina and do a deal with them.

Re: Any news on new Alphas?
No idea where all this AF motor ripping out stuff came from. Just don't see it myself. People are saying that sony will go for video in the next models, but going on their past record, they seem to be resisting such a move strongly. Is there any reason to suggest things have changed? They didn't eve...

Re: Any news on new Alphas?
I will never ever purchase a DSLR without an in-built motor. My Canon 30D that I used to have worked pretty well and it didn't have an AF motor in the body. Hmm and when Canon went to AF bodies, remind me exactly how many lenses were screw driven AF ones? Very different situation from Sony/Minolta.

The Sony "high ISO" thing.
Not to start a war off, or be super critical. However I can increasingly see what the "problem" is, regarding high ISO performance (at least on the A200, I see similar things on the A300/350, not sure about the A900 not seen enough shots), no experience of the A700, so I will let users giv...
