Re: New 70-200 G?

Well, there is expectation that the 70-200 G will get the same treatment as the 70-400 G, new coatings & an SSM upgrade & I would imagine in the not too distant future (depending upon how many of the existing ones are left in stock around the world) but concrete  .

Re: New Sony lenses and 70-400mm G

seals really need to be designed in at the start - this is just a facelift. I suspect that the same will be true for the 70-200 G II.
Not going to be an easy fix with an extending lens.

Having said that I've used my 70-400 in appalling weather with no issues :)

Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

You won't be able to use a wired remote with a flash in the shot shoe either (another dumb move), the LCD is smaller and half the res of the A57, the shooting rate is half the A57 too. Not much of an update is it really? the remote/flash etc. potential issue I had realised very quickly but it's pos...

re. Colour and power benefits of Sony 20 megapixel sensor

"Is the sensor the same as the Nikon D7100, which was announced this morning as well" was it? Have you got your dates mixed up & let something slip?

edit: the supposedly leaked release doing the rounds says that the D7100 has a 24.3MP sensor & will be announced 21/02

Re: New Sony lenses and 70-400mm G

£500 price increase on the 70-400mm G again the price is surely off the mark current list price is over £1600 so assuming the same that's a ~5.5% price increase. For 4x the AF speed (the current is slower to AF than the Canon 100-400 L)albeit beating it in pretty much everything else ) let alone th...

Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

I'm still shocked by the all plastic mount, it's a move that is frankly absurd and likely to not go down well. it's not all plastic, it's plastic, plastic, metal with the retention bit being metal & the front plastic only a bearing face. Given that this appears to be the entry model now & a...

I think that you are thinking of the RX1 as the RX100 has a zoom (equiv. to ~28-112 in 35mm terms iirc).

Re: Sony Support/Service - My opinion

Barry, were you speaking to Pencoed directly? If, as I suspect, you weren't but to general Sony tele support who also handle TV, DVD, PC etc. etc. you may well do better speaking directly to Pencoed. Certainly in the UK you would be well within your rights to reject it for a full refund from the sup...

Re: A58 coming with 20Mp and increased DR???

Faster AF is always welcome. I wonder why such improvements are introduced to a cheaper model after the release of the A99. To my way of thinking faster AF and greater DR should have been first in the NEX top model as well as the top APS-C and FF Alphas. Just my way of thinking. because it was the ...

Re: Sony Support/Service - My opinion

Roger Cicala had a joke on his LensRentals blog the other day - what do you call a Nikon D800 with a scratch on the sensor? Parts.
Apparently Nikon charge $1800 to replace the sensor & a new D800 body is under $2500.

Re: Sony Support/Service - My opinion

Quick update..well no news at all nothing from Sony so I fired off another (non angry) email asking to be informed about the status of the camera. Will see if I get anything back. Not great really has to be said I'd have expected a quicker turnaround from Sony, and as for providing normal informati...

Re: Sony Support/Service - My opinion

afaik Sony don't do extended warranties in the UK for cameras, don't know about Eire.
Anyway, I believe that Barry's A57 is only a few months old.
In any event, you still have to rely on the repair centre being competent.

Re: Software and firmware updates

I find it strange that nobody at the other fora is celebrating the arrival of tethering for a99. Where are all those writing long-thread moanings and groanings about the missing tethering? because afaik you have been able to tether the A99 since it went on sale. There is still no support for...

Re: Sony Support/Service - My opinion

where did you send it to for service?
Sony Pencoed have a pretty decent reputation for Alpha servicing but as I said I don't know if that is where Alphas from Eire go.
