Re: Silhouette

Very nice shots, Pat. The second one is more life like and the background is great in both of them.

Re: Silhouette

Yildiz,
I see what you mean and yes it does make sense. By Capturing some of the scenery that
the subject is also enjoying the image is enhanced. I guess had I remembered the rule of thirds,
it would have helped. :) I will keep that in mind next time.

Re: Silhouette

Here is one from Lake Tahoe, California/Nevada, USA. This fresh water pristine lake is situated at 6225 feet or 1897 Meters altitude in Sierra Nevada Mountains on eastern side of California. We were on the eastern side of Emerald Bay looking West and to your left at an angle is the south and most of...

Re: Victor

Pat, It was not your explanation but my interpretation that is to blame. It was I who made those conclusive inferences. It is the synergistic use of natural light and diffused flash. I did learn about how you composed the image. Once again, thank you for your patience and I certainly have learned a ...

Re: Weather Today-In Your Vicinity 2013

Nice shots from Northern and Southern Hemisphere. I could feel the cold and warmth at the same time.
Or it could have been that my single malt effect has been wearing off.

Re: Victor

Pat, Thank you for the detailed explanation. What I thought was exactly opposite of what you did. I was wondering how you got that bright light from a flash so even in shape. It is other way around. You used the natural light to light up the forehead and the subdued diffused light to light up the re...

Re: Victor

I love the expression on his face.

I am curious to know how the lighting is achieved. It is quite
dramatic, especially being a black and white.

It's good thing that thing is already "mounted" and you don't have to lug it around. :D
Nice shots by the way....

Re: A tiny bit of sun yesterday…

Pat, Thank you. That is very helpful insight (at least for me). I always look at an image at 100%, abd if it is not sharp at 100% I consider that as a "failed" shot. But then I started looking at some of the shots and though failed the sharp at 100% criterion I still liked them, with atten...

Re: Where the USA invaded England….

Pat,
Great set and very interesting narrative. My favorites are #1 in the 3 image set and the last one.
I love that almost Copper Sulphate blue. That is one of my favorite shades of blue.
The combination of images and narrative made it that much more enjoyable.

Re: A tiny bit of sun yesterday…

Pat, A great bag of "spanners" if you ask me. May I inquire why you thought the first two are borderline? I found them to be more than acceptable from my baseline but I am tremendously curious to know why you consider them baseline. I am hoping to improve my analytical skills. With best re...

Re: New Year's Day sunset

Dramatically different perspectives. While David's shot is demure and delicate, Robbie's sky is vibrant and "in your face" bold. Both are tremendously enjoyable. Thank you gentlemen for providing such visual pleasure. One is a zephyr and the other is a gust, but blown away by both. :) With...

I did not see any one start the thread so I thought why not? Here is one taken today with SAL24f2 with natural light backlit.
