Re: Pushed the button on A99
The A99's price is not relevant, it's quite seriously overpriced which is one reason I'm slightly unwilling to buy one. Also, I find the EVF overlays for the advanced focusing functions are quite intrusive. Despite the fact that I can get almost two Nikon D600 bodies for the price of an Alpha 99, I...

Re: Now the excited owner of the NEX-6
The built in flash is brilliant, and in particular the ability to pull the flash mechanism back and bounce flash. Why Sony don't design the mechanism to offer a stop for bouncing the flash? If its the same as the Nex7 flash I think the ability to bounce flash is merely a by-product of the flash spr...

Re: MD Rokkor lenses on Sony Alpha body
You can get infinity on all of these with a Sony NEX and an MD-NEX adapter. But not on an alpha-mount unless you use an adapter with a glass lens, which is the weak link in the chain.

Re: ISO equivalent A900 versus D600
Interesting comments, and suggestive perhaps that image sensor capability has reached a plateau pro tem.
But surely we should be comparing the a99 with the D800, not D600, since the premium Nikon is still selling at a lower price than the a99?

Re: Now the excited owner of the NEX-6
I have two questions about the NEX-6 kit if any of you new owners can comment. 1. Is the new 16-50 materially better than the old 18-55 kit lens? 2. Does the WiFi allow you to set aperture and focus point; focus and view / magnify focusing image from the LV wirelessly on a smartphone or tablet (as d...

Re: MD mount lenses, what's hot or not!
This link to a photozone.de lens survey provides some useful indicators for all manner of lenses including Minolta MC/MD/AF. Some, with few respondents, can probably be taken with a pinch of salt, like that for the 45/2 MC, where the view from the two respondents is clearly very different from David...

Re: Sony Alpha A99 Field Test Report
When I read all these stories about QC problems I wonder whether it is because these cameras/lenses are just being made to too cheap a selling price. Presumably these are assembly issues rather than component issues too. Maybe this is a partial justification for Leica's high prices. No QC issues the...

Re: V1.01 Firmware for Nex7 greatly improves shadows
I have noticed a resolution improvement on the 18-55mm kit lens. You've got CA in the very middle of the frame - means the active OSS element was strongly out of balance. You simply can't make any res comparisons under such conditions. The OSS must be off when evaluating resolution, especially the ...

Re: V1.01 Firmware for Nex7 greatly improves shadows
I have noticed a resolution improvement on the 18-55mm kit lens. This photo, of beach huts at Hengistbury Head, was taken at 18mm. 1/500, F11, ISO 100. The crops below are split into two posts because of the 3 image limitation They show the original and approximate 100% crops at the centre, lower co...

Probably my eyes, then, since this was focused manually, albeit at fairly wide aperture. Good of you to point it out, thoughpakodominguez wrote:U have a back-focus issue...artington wrote: This is mine, refurbished with a nice burgundy leather skin - the originals were prone to peeling.

Re: Sony Alpha A99 Field Test Report
Well, my slightly tongue in cheek comment certainly got some answers! Just a little note from the past. Did anyone own a Minolta XD7? I think it was called the XD11 outside of the UK. What a beautiful little jewel of a camera that was. I wore out my first one, and rather than getting it fixed I bou...

Re: Sony Alpha A99 Field Test Report
What is this stuff about lack of lenses? What possible lens would you want that Sony do not provide? Except for the tilt-shift I admit. How anout a 70-200/4? This is one of the most handy lenses and Canon do a marvellous one. And a decent 24-105, again along the lines of Canon's, not the indifferen...
