Re: Sunset Flight
I'm up for a plane photo anytime, I was trying to guess what that one was, a 737 variant maybe? Nice photo. It is a Boeing 757. The easy way to tell the difference from the 737 series is that the 737 aircraft all have very short landing gear and the fuselage is closer to the ground. In addition, as...

Sunset Flight
In May of this year I was on a business trip which involved a change of planes at the Atlanta airport that took place at about sunset. Looking out the terminal window, I saw an image that I found appealing - which is not a surprise since I have been making my living in the aerospace industry for ov...

Tsawwassen 16ºc. clear, early AM. 36ºc. bit too hot for me Doc. You definitely do not want to visit Phoenix, Arizona at this time of year. My daughter and her family returned there last Friday, after spending the week with us in California, and she said that the temperature went from 26 C in Califo...

Re: Sigma 19 and 30 Nex Primes
Here is another image taken on the same occasion as the previous shot with the Sigma 30mm f:2.8 lens on my NEX-6. It is a shot of my son's wife with their younger son, who had just turned 1 year-old. This image was taken with the shutter at 1/200 second, and the lens at f:3.2, i.e. almost wide open....

Re: Sigma 19 and 30 Nex Primes
That was the impression I had gotten - there are just cosmetic changes. Vidgamer suggested he also had the same impression from DPR posts. At the price the old ones seem a bargain even if they are not quite as good as the new ones. (I think I prefer the old styling as well.) There is an old saying ...

Using a rather different legacy lens
For no real reason other than that I could -and perhaps curiosity - today I installed and used a legacy lens on my NEX-6 that is the antithesis of the NEX system, at least as I view the system. For me, the reason to use a NEX is because it is small and light but still delivers images that I conside...

Re: Views of Mesa Arch
Very nice indeed.
I am particularly fond of the last image because it is not only lovely, but is also a very different perspective on the sunlight in the arch.

Gary Friedman's book on the NEX-5R & NEX-6 has been released
Gary Friedman just released the latest in his series of excellent books on photography. This one is on the NEX-5R and NEX-6. It is over 500 pages inlength and is available in both electronic and printed form. The electronic version comes in PDF format, mobi (Kindle) format, and epub (Nook) format, ...

The Two Faces of Aiden
Perhaps because of my love of puns, these two images reminded me of the classic 1957 film, "The Three Faces of Eve", which won multiple "Best Actress" awards for the then-unknown Joanne Woodward. The film, based upon a real person, tells the story of a woman with Multiple Person...

Re: Exhibit Portrait shots
I normally think of a portrait image as being a head-and-shoulders shot - or at least close to that, although I know that there are some classic full-body portraits. The latter are my excuse for posting these images - although the real reason is the subject of the portraits, the one-and-only Gary F...

Re: Exhibit Portrait shots
Here are some images that might fit this category, although all were taken as family snapshots just for the memories. The first is of SWMBO, taken last October at an outdoor fund-raising dinner for a local high school. The next two are of my daughter-in-law and her younger son, taken last week-end ...

Re: Sony 35mm f/1.8 DT SAM ( SAL-35F18 ) with LA-EA2 on NEX-
Glad to hear you're on the mend Tom. Look forward to seeing some pictures from the Nex :) Be careful what you ask for . . . I've spent at least as much time playing with old lenses on the NEX as I have taking "real" photos with modern lenses. Here are three images taken with three ...
