Re: Dxomark has A700 v4 up now

I can't believe I was actually about to back up Don, and then he checked out of the forum! IMO, DxO Mark, while certainly not perfect, is a very useful reference, and is a step in the right direction for testing. Scientific testing, like Dxo Mark, and more anecdotal testing, like Michael Reichmann's...

Re: New Sony lenses

Agreed, Phototraveler. I think this might be a differently designed 28-75, with SSM, which would explain that apparent switch on the side of the lens.

Re: A900 in Antarctica

I think we've all seen those charts a thousand times. You said you wanted video, which the 5dii has along with good noise handlng. Plus, you realize that 3ev only means one stop in those charts, right? Please stop calling me names or demeaning my posts whenever I have a rebuttal, or I'll take it upo...

Re: A900 in Antarctica

If live view, movies, and high ISO is what you want, then you are silly to be shooting Sony, and you should buy a 5dii. It's obvious that one can't make a direct comparison between the 5dii and a900's sealing with such a difference in sample size, but MR's comments about the A900's sealing are still...

A900 in Antarctica

Michael Reichmann has a new post up about how different cameras held up in Antarctica. Apparently, six of the 26 5Dii's on the trip failed. I found this statement from the article particularly interesting: "I should note that the 5D MKII's are not rated as weather resistant, but then neither ar...

Re: HSS @ 1/8000 A700 and A900

The Interfit website says the EX150 flashes have a duration of "1 ~ 3 m/secs" whatever that means?? The ABR 800 has 1/3200th second at t=.5

Here's to hoping this works with Alien Bees, although David's posts don't sound to positive in that regard. This would be game changing for me, if it does work.

Re: 100 MP FF Alpha

My point is that higher MPs don't make more noise, so, if lenses are designed to handle it, the more the merrier. My lenses handle the a900 no problem. High ISO noise is related to sensor design and size, assuming your comparing at like viewing size. My point about fps was, if Nikon (or anyone) was ...

Re: 100 MP FF Alpha

Not to detract from your contest, gentleman, but let me throw in a little of my insight on the subject. I think 100MP will probably be too far past the lens limits to be worth it, but we'll see? More MPs are coming, and surely we'll see 30-40MP FF cameras in the nearer future. The problem with the n...

Re: Nikon D3X DXOMark Numbers Blow the Sony A900 Away!

Sonolta, I said nothing hostile towards you. I was simply stating that the SNR measurement between the a900 and D3x wasn't far off. I agree that the DR is much different, but it is worth mentioning that the d90 has outrageous dr as well. I read about this stuff as mych as you do, but I rarely post h...

Re: Nikon D3X DXOMark Numbers Blow the Sony A900 Away!

Interestingly, the noise between the A900 and D3x isn't much different. It's around 1db at all ISOs, which equates to only around 1/3 stop EV. What's really interesting to me is that the difference between the D90 and D300 on Dxo Mark is somewhat similar to the difference between the D3x and A900. N...

I've already seen most of those as well. Whenever you disagree with a point, a barrage of photos and links comes from you ad nauseam, which doesn't help the conversation. I'm not saying you're a bad photographer, but, rather, a bad conversationalist. However, this "foe" thing makes it easi...

Re: A900 vs D3X highlights/mid/shadow tones

Hey fanboy..please do get a clue. If you can's see the excess noise or read DK's own words then you need to give up photography! I have shot almost 300k digital shots, licensed or sold thousands of them, and I have printed thousands as well. I appreciate the name calling and forum flooding that has...

Sonolta, it's interesting that you post links to dxo Mark, but you don't post links to the "print" comparison, only the "screen."
