Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings
Whatever happens, I'm sticking to what I have. Over time, used prices should recover a bit ie better value. I will probably buy used for a second body. I bought the 28mm F1.8 G used it's half the price of a new one, and well looks near enough new anyway! All the makers will do the same strategy they...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings
Sony do alright with their imaging division, but they bury their figures deeply. So it's near impossible to see how well they are doing. I suspect it's not quite as well as some assume. The golden days are long gone, in terms of volume. Sony are big into courting review sites/influencers/press - onc...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings
Give it a try and see what happens. It's true there is a lot of speculation about where things are moving for many makers. Just run with what works for you. I won't lose sleep over what happens to DSLR's, I'm going to use what works for me. If the M5 is working keep it going I completely lost intere...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings
I suspect there is some raw fiddling at high ISO on these newer BSI sensors, at least at the very high ISO levels. Canon got some stick for applying NR to raw even at low ISO (R5/6/3) on the reviews, stating loss of details. Not sure how much real world difference it makes. Strange they do it at low...

From an article in Pop Photo, suggesting makers should get rid of the reflex design!

Old Photo Adverts...
Doesn't have to be cameras, could be anything photo related. I will kick it off with the 7D, quite expensive for it's day. Feel free to post your own Screenshot 2022-06-02 185535.jpg 7000i Screenshot 2022-06-02 190258.jpg These were strange cameras, I can appreciate the idea though being left handed...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings
The jpeg NR on the Sony cameras was pretty heavy, on many of the models. I don't care much for the DSLR jpegs, nor most of the SLT's. The A77 was particularly bad for jpeg, and the 3 NR settings did almost nothing! Even at low ISO it smeared everything to bits. Shame really, as they saddled the came...

Being able to develop from Raw, still something that cannot be done on any Sony camera I'm aware of. Nikon also have a not much talked about picture controls, you can customise this i...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings
I must have missed the excitement on the new Fuji! Seems like a nice enough 2.5K video camera, not seeing anything there for photo users much. They went with a PASM dial, and dropped the dual dials/collars too (hmmm). A 150-600mm F8 2 grand lens...bit of a yawn all round. Perhaps the 40mp one will b...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings
For reference the 17% market share article, was on this site - but isn't any longer (I can't find it anyway or maybe I missed it) https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/29272130 That's 2 years into DSLR, to get 17% share is quite good really. I believe that was off the back of the A200-350 cameras mos...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings
I saw more A200/350 DSLR's, than I did any other type of Sony camera. So I have to assume, they sold well enough. I never saw SLT's in that number, I did not see sidelines packed with A77's either - that was never going to happen. I don't buy the DSLR failure, simply because it's not about the DSLR'...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings
I've now sold my A99. Do I miss it? Honestly I liked the camera; nice build, mostly good ergos, decent DR and output... it's just a shame it was so silly expensive when it was released. Sony never had an affordable full frame body for A Mount, well not really unless you count the A850 when it was at...

Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm
I'll just keep building up a system on what I have, there are some nice enough deals around. Over time things will improve. I expect more mirrorless stuff will turn up, ever higher prices (Z6III etc). Again it's easy for me to ignore all this and just replace my sold A mount gear with F mount. A7IV ...

Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm
Canon might keep stuff around for a while, EF-M around for a bit. Still I can't see them going anywhere with it. If you buy those EF-M lenses, nowhere to put them. EOS lenses, still are popular as they adapt well and can be used on DSLR and RF and other mounts. To me Canon seem full on RF and not mu...
