Re: A Couple of Namibian Landscapes
Thanks for that comment Sury. I got around to printing them yesterday. However, I first applied another curve adjustment to the monochrome version to pull the tones up a bit - in the version above the whites were in the 80% range and I pulled them up by about 10%. That tends to improve the "3D&...

Re: A Couple of Namibian Landscapes
Thanks for the positive comments Valery and Sury. I have not yet printed the two Sperrgebiet images, so I will reserve judgement on which I will use. I'm also leaning towards the monochrome version; but the colour print will probably display some very subtle colour tones (that cannot be seen on a co...

A Couple of Namibian Landscapes
Although I visit the Photoclubalpha forum daily I rarely comment. So, since I had prepared the write-up below anyway, I decided to drop a copy here too. For the month of May our local camera club has the set subject "Solitude". I looked up the word and noted that "solitude" is ge...

Re: still avoiding Adobe CC rental
Well I'm really stuck in the past now. I'm using LR 4. When I tried to upgrade to LR5 Adobe wouldn't allow it, because I bought Ver 4 whilst living in Australia and tried to upgrade now that I'm back in South Africa. I suppose if I'd continued to argue they may have conceded - but I just got annoyed...

Re: Cape Columbine Lighthouse
Are these long enough exposures that you need tripod? Just curious. Sury Thanks Sury Basically, for these kinds of shot, I set up the camera on a tripod and use a cable release not to prevent blur, but to make it easier to align the images during post-processing. In this particular case I probably ...

Cape Columbine Lighthouse
Our camera club organised a long-weekend outing to Paternoster on the West Coast. There are lots of small fishing vessels there, and we spent some time doing light-painting of those. The weather was brilliant and a good portion of the time there were amazing cloud formations. So, other than for the ...

Hi Yildiz
Thanks for your additional comments on my skeletal tree image. I nearly missed seeing this!
Normally our dams hit their peak around this time of the year, and Theewaterskloof is currently only 53% full, which is the worst in many years.

Thank you, Peter! :) That sounds great. Whenever and wherever you are ready and willing would be fine with us. : ) Best, Yildiz . Hi Yildiz I started to work up a new image, but decided that a detailed description of all of my processes is just too difficult for me to document. I keep reversing wha...

Re: Where does post processing end and art techniques start?
A few days after I completed the coloured image in the previous post I decided to prepare a B&W version. I started with the PSD file and generated a number of B&W layers in Topaz Restyle, which were then combined. Once again the work was stored in a new PSD file, and the flattened TIF file s...

Where does post processing end and art techniques start?
I promised Yildiz (Aster) I would put up something on my post processing (or art technique) methods. Here goes. The camera club I belong to has a monthly set subject. For one of these I needed an image of an abandoned dwelling. I had previously taken a number of shots of just such a ruin, but most h...

. Thank you for the profound quality of detailed explanations on the workflow, Peter. : ) Yildiz No worries Yildiz - happy to assist where I can. I just checked to see if I still had a copy of my working PSD file. I usually keep these for a few weeks after editing in case I want to tweak something ...
