Re: An idea for sensor layout, partly 'foveonish'
The Bayer array was necessary to provide max res at min sensel count. Such array produces as many pixels as there are sensels, though the real res is about 1.5 times worse due to demosaicing and LPF smoothing. A Foveon has to have three time more sensels than there are of output pixels, and generall...

Re: Software and firmware updates
The first to apply very heavy geometry corrections to a near-fisheye lens was the Lx3. And it worked OK due to low pixelcount and also due to lower expectations as that was a P&S; and then that tiny Leica lens it had was a little marvel at all but geometry. But using heavy corrections over a len...

Re: Software and firmware updates
because afaik you have been able to tether the A99 since it went on sale. Now I know it's true. I wasn't aware that the RCC utility got updated to support the 99 being available since Oct'12; first time I heard of that was end of Dec'12. But then again, I don't use 99. (Though I would definitely bu...

Re: Software and firmware updates
I find it strange that nobody at the other fora is celebrating the arrival of tethering for a99.
Where are all those writing long-thread moanings and groanings about the missing tethering?

Re: SIGMA 60mm F2.8 DN
I've a suspicion that the 60 is a by-product of the 30, sharing most of its elements/design. So that was likely cheap to develop. And now they have a 'kit' that may substitute a fast 19-60 zoom, delivering a generally better IQ than whatever might be expected from such a zoom. Anyway, that 60 makes ...

Thanks David, that's cleared it up for me, I'm learning more and more with these posts, so thank you every one. Pete You're quite welcome, Peter, but me no David  Anyway, our thanks should go to David for providing a space free of mud-slinging to the point of being suitable for normal human co...

Nope.classiccameras wrote:Is this why its recommended to disable the 'first curtain' shutter' on SLT APS cameras when using KM lenses?
That's due to too slow aperture blades movement. They are late to close, and you get an overexposed part in the lower part of the image.

Re: 17-35mm G version or 16-35mm Carl Zeiss
Barry, the experience you get with the APS bodies using the FF lenses may be twisted. Consider the following - all that extra light the FF lens delivers has to spread in the mirror chamber somehow, and if the lens is not adequately telecentric, that light spread shines onto many more parts of the ch...

Re: MetaBones Speed Booster Adaptor
The speed adapter increases the aperture by 1 stop. For example an F2 lens becomes F1.4. Now presumably this means that the light transmission doubles. Total transmission doesn't double; as the flux is condensed from near-FF to APS span, the flux density over the APS area doubles while outside that...

Re: NEX E-mount 20mm pancake & 18-200 power zoom
The hood of the 18-55 fits the 16mm, and it also helps quite a lot there really increasing contrast. So if they want the 20mm to be better than that 16mm, they must provide hood, especially considering the asking price. I may be interested in that 20mm if it can really deliver with the UWA. I then c...

Re: NEX E-mount 20mm pancake & 18-200 power zoom
Pako, the same physical bayonet is also there on the 18-55; adapters fit mechanically, but vignette strongly. In fact, it's the hood bayonet that also serves for the adapters.

Re: NEX E-mount 20mm pancake & 18-200 power zoom
That could make a really nice 15mm with UWA adapter. If only that 20mm lives up to expectations...
But I'm not quite sure yet if it may work - the front element is much larger compared to the 16mm pancake.

Re: An idea for sensor layout, partly 'foveonish'
Probably it’s the sheer size of the task, to get on top of sensor knowledge you would have to know lots of stuff that is proprietary or secret information and not therefore available in any case. Most of that proprietary stuff is confined to engineering. And that engineering is there to allow the p...

Re: An idea for sensor layout, partly 'foveonish'
it looks to my suspicious mind with that design of yours that you could be looking at moire issues with those alternate colour columns, a lot less green than a Bayer layout too it seems, you would have the two blue columns a single green column then apparently two red columns then a single green co...

Re: Focus peaking with LA-EA2 and the Playmemories wifi app
Which lenses and camera are you using with DMF and LA-EA2? All native Sony/Minolta lenses do DMF with LA-EA2 with the usual limitations, just as they they do with any a-mount body; which means that SAM lenses can't/don't . With Sigma you are limited to screwdriver, HSM won't do. All-in-all, a LA-EA...
