Re: From your garden/backyard

Hi Lionel - would that be the same HMS Victorious that fought in the Med. and Pacific in WWII? My wife's grandfather looked after the planes on that. He had some fabulous pictures, including the classic "sweeping kamikaze wreckage" off the deck  ! (That was his story, anyway.) Yes ...

Re: From your garden/backyard

Wow! Nice close ups. I can't seem to find these critters in my backyard. Bane of urban living I suppose. Sury Thanks for the complements. Maybe you could find a 'roach or two after all they could be good subjects although many will feel nothing but revulsion. Got used to these in the RN the old Vic...

Re: Photoshop moves to the cloud

I thought I was bored of these .... but no, it got me again. Hah! Seen those clips used for so many purposes. As for Windows 8, being still on XP I looked at Win 7's front end with horror. Heck once being an 'under the bonnet' sort of guy I liked the ability to purge web cache selectively easily wi...

Re: Bonny Scotland, why holiday anywhere else?

Richard, I'm sure I once read that years ago Scotland was attached to the USA and was much more tropical than it is now so I guess it is entirely feasible that ancient coral deposits could have accumulated. The "sand" at Balnakeil is very white so could be either shells or coral I suppose...

Re: Birds 2013

Had to grab this unfolding event quick so had to go with the A77 with the lens attached being the Sony 70-300mm G SSM. Not particularly spectacular shots, the light was poor and getting worse, but a story unfolds. Is this the gathering for the Match of the Day? http://lionels.orpheusweb.co.uk/MorePi...

Re: Blast from the past

Sury, here's looking up, all shots Minolta SRT101 on 25 ASA Kodachrome II with Rokkor 35mm f3.5, Rokkor 55mm f1.4 and Tamron 135mm f5.6 respectively, taken a few weeks before launch of Apollo 15 in 1971. Looking up into the roof of the Apollo VAB (Vehicle Assembly Building), which could form its own...

Re: Bonny Scotland, why holiday anywhere else?

The Seychelles? The water really is that colour at Balnakeil. Mike Yes, I quite agree about the colour of that water. I have many similar shots taken from beaches on the road south of Mallaig that was back in 2008 will be visiting again soon hopefully, depending on health. Nice shots there Mike, in...

Thanks Birma.
Those Phantoms look like they mean serious business!
Yes green with a yellow band = real live HE bombs.

I must have been mad signing up to live and work on a floating combined bomb dump and fuel store. :!:

Re: A77, Lightroom and Win XP

Very interesting shots Lionel. I am enjoying them. Thank you Dr. Here are a few more, shame these are on a thread who's title no longer indicates some of the content so for continuity I'll continue here. First up, a section of 892 Squadron Phantoms bombed-up and ready for a go at their secondary ro...

Re: Flowers 2013

Nice capture but too high key for my liking Andy. This is with Sigma 70300 on A700 in macro mode at 300mm... Sury Interesting, and attractive, exercise in colour and shade there Sury. That Sigma intrigues me. About six years ago I bought a second hand Sigma 70 - 300 mm (they wanted close to £100 bu...

Re: Flowers 2013

As an addendum to the Bluebell pictures I have had a go at video. Just a quick 30 second clip of the Bluebells and the dawn chorus in the woods. I quite like the concept - I will have to experiment further. I liked that. Can you not manage the 'Geoff Sample' voice-over? Was that the sound of...
