Re: lens Choice

Sury, Happy New Year to you. I'd probably say the same. The majority need the exposure altering in LR but now I often just dial in +2/3, it really depends on how much sky is in the shot and how much deep shadow is present. I found because I use a lot of the smaller focus groups, the exposure accurac...

Re: Sony A77M2 - Help/Pointers requested

Haha, practice makes perfect Sury. I warned you about the wide focus mode, for smaller objects try the local groups or even the centre spot if you can keep it on the subject. When it works it is very good but be prepared for many failures till you learn the best method for the different situations. ...

Re: lens Choice

The 16-80 is much better than the 18-200 over the same focal lengths.
Haven't used a 18-55.

Re: lens Choice

When I shoot aircraft I often use a centre group which usually lines up nicely with the fuselage but if you get a formation, sometimes the group ends up in blue sky and you get hunting so for formations I use wide. On FF I use either the KM 28-75 f2.8 or an old Minolta 28-105 I picked up. The f2.8 h...

Re: lens Choice

Just be aware which focus mode you are in. I found on occasions that the wide setting could select a point in the bottom foreground which was much closer than the intended subject as the frame coverage is so big. I tend to use one of the local groups and use the toggle to move the area around to sui...

Re: lens Choice

I do like the centre sharpness of the CZ but find the edges/corners are a little bit soft. It's my preferred APSC walk about lens even if I'd like a little more reach but it's fairly compact for travelling too.
Not used either the Tamron or Sony.

Re: lens Choice

Some excellent advice here. Even though much of my subjects need telezooms I have a little pocket in my bag for my trusty old Minolta 35-70 f4. Considering the vintage it is a superb complimentary lens to my 70-something zooms. Very small and light to even pop in a trouser pocket. Not wide enough fo...

Re: Sony A77M2 - Help/Pointers requested

Your default "out of the bag" settings will be determined by the kind of shooting you expect to do. Since my primary mode is aviation the A99 is usually sat in the bag with the 70-400G fitted. It will be on RAW, centre local focus group, continuous Hi, A, ISO 200 and f8. When I go to the l...

Re: Sony A77M2 - Help/Pointers requested

I very rarely use AutoISO but have the Mk1 set along with P for the wife to use. Saves a lot of "fiddling" which she hates. I usually shoot in A at between f5.6 and f11 depending on the lens and pick an ISO to give me a suitable shutter speed. Default is ISO200 then adjust from there to su...

Re: Some cars from San Fracisco Car Show 2015

Thank you Andy and Mike. Mike, that's why I am still hanging on to my 2004 Ford Expedition. .... Wise man. Doubt I could afford the fuel for it over here in the UK. Unleaded petrol has just dropped to around £1.00 per litre with the collapsing oil price. I whisper quietly that I drive a diese...

Re: Sony A77M2 - Help/Pointers requested

Just checked my Mk1 body. In P mode set to AutoISO Switch to M mode and it defaulted to ISO100. Then whilst in M, I changed to ISO200 then back to P. It returned to AutoISO. Again changed to M and it defaulted to ISO100 again. Thought it might resort to last used M ISO but no. Now switched to the Mk...

Re: Sony A77M2 - Help/Pointers requested

I'm fairly sure that you can't use Auto ISO on M. I think it only works on P,A,S.
To me M is where I'd want it to be working. I choose the DOF (aperture) and the minimum shutter speed I want and it chooses the ISO but I don't think it allows this.

Interesting discussion

In the course of my Christmas shopping on Saturday I popped into my local Jessops store for a browse. The salesman approached as usual and asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I said I was considering a change from Sony to Canikon but wasn't sure as yet. He was shocked and asked why, a...
