New SLR users..buy in level
Had an interesting encounter this evening. I decided to bash about with the film 7 and at last try some of that Ektar 100. Anyway..ran into a few photographers around, one who was shooting film amazingly! (velvia if I remember), so I am not the only one ;-) Also ran into a woman..and she noted I was...

I know who voted for Canon  http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1031&message=32006737" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Busted! lol I voted for Nikon overall I think the system is more appealing "overall" I would add, no interest at all in t...

Re: Opel/Vauxhall
I have been reading about this! Being an Astra man 100%, won't buy anything else ;-) The Magna deal looks about the best out there, thank the lord Fiat walked away..they were going to crush opel/vauxhall. GM retains I think a 35% share of the company, Magna are offering 10% to the workforce, and the...

In lens motors..how long do they last??
Not to stir up anything, but being a screw drive lens guy..I have little idea of how long in lens motors go for. I have heard of some issues on the Canikon lens area, but not sure of how widespread this is. Not really talking about the "meant to be high" quality SSM motors, rather the new ...

Ok HSS but as above are the GN numbers fudged or something?? If it's a mere GN 11?? As suggested..HSS is going to need a bit more power.

That in camera level meter looks pretty nice.
Small touches that add up to nice things! Saying that, I wouldn't pay £1200 for one..

Re: Replacement LCD screens?
Being honest that is a valid point, A200 is not good in strong light screen wise, mind you the 5d wasn't any great shakes either. A high contrast option would be of use, so I can agree on that. Don't mention "firmware update" though, I doubt we will get it  One other complaint :mrgre...

Did Sony make a mistake: A900 no built in flash?
Enjoy! Be interesting to see how folks feel about this.
Feel free to add comments, a simple yes or no on this one..
The main argument for the flash built in is of course acting as a wireless controller.

I'll give Sony some credit..
At least they had the brains and sense to use SD and MS, rather than their own memory format.
Clearly this signals that someone is earning their pay cheque, even if they made a style of camera that does not appeal to me.

Re: I hate to say it..but
I am pretty sure those top notcho Panavision cameras (I mean the serious movie stuff now) are MF only. But I admit to knowing next to nothing about video and filming etc. Of course it's correct to point out that video cameras are not designed the same as still ones. Hence the SLR is never really goi...

Re: I hate to say it..but
Maybe Don is right. Harsh words, but I do detect something a bit consumer pandering about Sony, esp with the latest releases. I hate to say this, but every chance that the next mid range models won't be what some are looking for. That of course varies from person to person. But by far the ...

I hate to say it..but
Having been in touch with a number of folks I know, in person mostly..and some who are into camera clubs etc. levels from new DSLR users to mid point ones. I do detect an interest in video in DSLR's, from many people (I admit my sample is not huge, but they are varied) Not all are interested in it, ...

If you had no camera equipment at all..which maker??
This one has to be done, feel free to add any comments as to why or not etc.
Bottom line is owning nothing at all, what system maker offers you the best overall for your needs? Where would you put your cash today
