Sigma 50-150 f2.8

Haven't been posting much recently as I keep losing my login details. In the interim I picked up an a77 (love the handling, a little disappointed with noise at mid to high Iso), the a77 kit lens (a fab lens - no problems with my copy that I can see, love the IQ and fast focussing) but also stumbled ...

Re: raw converter ?

I'm a little late to the conversation but I prefer DXO Optics Pro to process my a55 / a77 shots - currently trialling version 7, release a few weeks ago but very pleased with the older v6.6 too - I was forced to use lightroom for a month or so when I got my a77 and whilst I like it as an organiser o...

Re: windows v elements

I've noticed similar effects with various JPEG display programs and applets - when viewing jpegs full screen (meaning some sort of scaling will have been applied to the image as I shoot at 14-24 MP typically), Google's freebie picasa software renders images in full screen mode much more pleasingly (...

Austrian Alps

Spent a few days at a conference in Innsbruck, Austria. Unfortunately, the first couple of days suffered from terrible weather - 10cm of rain on the first afternoon, snow, sleet and 100% cloud cover the following day before warm sunny days and blue skies on the third. I'm still ploughing through the...

Margate Fireworks

I went to a festival at Margate last week which turned out to be a logistical / parking nightmare (mainly my fault for leaving late :-)) so I got absolutely zero shots of the dancers, fire breathers etc etc.. but did just about manage to catch a few nice fireworks from the display at the end.. A55, ...

Salisbury Cathedral

A few nice and simple shots from Salisbury Cathedral last week - there's a sculpture exhibition outside / inside the cathedral by a local artist (Sean Henry) that works really well in context and here's my favourite... Re: Seeking advice on using an a55 in a studio with strobes.

Thanks Kevin.. I'm going to look into a wireless option as well via your links. If I can get that to work it might be a more elegant option (I'm assuming that a modern wireless transmitter wont be any sort of voltage issue for the a55, which will also remove that worry too).

Re: Ultrawide decisions...

I recently sold a Tamron 10-24 and replaced it with the tokina 11-16 and am very happy that I did.. but the Tokina is not without its quirks. Its sharp in the centre wide open at 2.8, step it down a little and its sharp corner to corner but the autofocus can be a little fickle - some of my shots wer...

Seeking advice on using an a55 in a studio with strobes.

I'm thinking of doing a portrait course at a local photographers studio to learn about strobe work etc - I have absolutely no experience of studio work so I thought this would be a good way to get some. However, I want to use my a55 and as most of you know, I'm going to run into a few issues , namel...

Re: Live from Jodrell Bank - music event

WOW.
Nice shots, well chosen angles, great atmosphere - I like all 3. Shot 1 has a big of an epic feel, 2 feels really vibrant and ablaze with colour (would have been great in my colour thread :-) and 3 is great use of a fish eye effect.

Re: Which one?

I prefer the side on view of the child in #1 but like the silhouettes in #2 - as suggested above, can you darken the shadows in #1 to get more of a silhouette?

Re: New Pentax Q System

My friend (a camera shop owner) just emailed me to say he's used the new Q system this morning and he was mildly impressed in terms of its design / size. He thinks it will sell to p&s owners looking to upgrade to a system camera - he went as far as to say he though it would outsell the u4/3 Pen ...
