Re: One year anniversary of disaster in Japan
What a desaster! I remember the day, we were travelling to Germany to celebrate my sisters 40 years 2 days later. In the morning, at breakfast in our little B&B we listening to the radio and heard the news and were shocked. Since my wife is from Turkey, we're a bit more sensible to news about ea...
Re: London?
Wow - one of the richest countries and even cattle gets a better ride! What about pick pocketing, any worse than London, Paris or Rome?
Re: London?
We will be taking only the NEX with 18-200 and 18-55 lenses - I've decided to no longer carry a huge SLR with me and will quit the A-mount. Will get more E-mount lenses later and upgrade the 5 to a 5N or 7 or whatever will be available in a few months
Re: London?
Petit change: rather than going two weeks in May, we've split it into two and we'll be going in two weeks  for 5 days. A bit short, but we found a cheap flight, direct, into Heathrow and during daytime! None of these e*y j*t flights where you arrive at 11:30pm in Gatwick or Luton :? Booked ...

Re: Tamron 18-200 for NEX anyone? (pics added)
It probably has the panorama issue, but I am not doing panoramas. Haven't even tried yet with the Tamron.
As to VS, I can't compare, it's my first tele with OS, but when it kicks in a 200mm - wow, it nails the image, it's really impressive (at least on the LCD)...

Re: Clone batteries and NEX-5n
It's a shame how consumers are ripped off for camera or cell phone batteries. You can get a $300 camera and then pay $80 for a replacement battery  It makes me sick but as long as a few companies rule the market it won't change. Batteries or cell phone chargers are $5 articles but due to prop...

Re: Tamron 18-200 for NEX anyone?
... If a new lens prices keep going up then second hand lenses could even become an investmen for the future! Certainly, though we need to see how well lenses with motorized focus and OSS work after 20 years... I actually bought 3 MDs and a cheap adapter for the NEX. Sold them a year later without ...

Re: Tamron 18-200 for NEX anyone?
Yesterday a guy put up his brand new NEX7 and Tamron 18-200 for sale, having to pay some unexpected taxes. Couldn't agree for a price on the 7 but got a good deal for the Tamron - I think NEX5 + 18-200 will be our everyday solution for our holidays. Should I not like it, I can still resell it later ...
Re: London?
Seems our trip will be a cullinary experience Thanks everybody, up to me know to find something in either an 'outside' location like Richmond or in the center, like charing cross. And by the way, I did use Google maps when selecting a hotel last year in Tenerife! Can be very helpful.
Re: London?
Thanks all!
We're more akin to a central location, we'll probably walk a lot, that's how we normally explore a city. But London might be too huge. Guess will spent some time searching around ...
I should try France, the south east is said to be niceAtgets_Apprentice wrote:... probably in France!

Re: London?
Thanks David,Harvey and Arlington, will have a look!
London?
The question is, for a touristic stay in London, 1-2 weeks, in what corner of London would you stay? Or does it not matter since the tube takes you everywhere in a sec? Now this is actually not really 'off topic' because I'am going to take photos there :D Having visited Rome, Paris, Barcelone and ot...

Re: Tamron 18-200 for NEX anyone?
Well, since nobody knows, let me summarize what I found so far from different sites: - Sharpness of the Tamron is more homogeous from center to corners. Sony is sharper in the center but loses in the corners. - At 200mm the Sony has the edge - AF speed seems similar but the Tamron tends to change fo...

For a corner with the 16mm, that looks pretty good!
