I was just wondering how many (if anyone) has a hard case setup for their gear intended for long distance travel? I have a nice Kata bag for everyday use and usually end up carrying it on the plane with me.

Problem is becoming that I am getting more toys and finding myself in situations where I wish I had more of my stuff with me at a time. I frequently travel to the Caribbean and have a lot of freight that moves through carriers for work (traveling sound engineer). I was thinking about getting a hard case setup such as a Pelican or a Storm case but wanted to see what everyone else did/has first!

Re: Hard Case
I'm using the sling shot A100 of Lower Pro + a small lens bag attached to it (to fit my tamron 14mm 2..
What I can put in that bag :
external small bag attached:
14mm 2.8
Main storage:
28mm 2.0
50mm 1.4
100mm 2.0 or the 85mm 1.4, depend how I feel.
200mm 2.8
1.4x TC II
A900
Medium storage:
5600 HS flash + elastic bounce
OC cable to put the flash higher on the camera
4 x AAA
1 OTG 160 gig (for photo backup) and can also be a good multi-card reader.
Small storage:
72mm polarized
55mm polarized
Extra A900 battery
1.5 feet external remote
IR Sony Remote
Video cable
USB cable
Memory slot :
4 CF cards,
2 x Ear protective set (when I shoot rock band)
2 x cleaning tissues
External attachment:
Small tripod (4 feet long max)
The bag is very small, and You almost cannot think that all this stuff it's in it.
Regards,
Frank

Re: Hard Case
Hi,
i have a peli 1650 case which will hold all the equipment that I need and will go inot the hold locked as has been backwards and forwards to spain and portugal for over 6 years shooting conferences. In addition to this I have a small lowpro bag with a spares body and lens and flash in case of lost .
The peli bag was given to me by Peli following a major car crash where I had to look for a new camera bag as a Peli survived but a Lowepro did not with cameras scattered all over a field I myself needed anew body but they could not help with that!!
I run 2 a700 systems with three flashes 70 200, 24 70, 10 20, 100 macro, 50, 85 and 70 300, a tripod monopod 30 gb of cards portable hard drive and filters and all but the tripod and monpod fit in the two cases.
Hope this helps

Re: Hard Case
You were not, by any chance, photographing event pix at the 2008 British Professional Photography Awards were you?
I was surprised to find Alphas in use (though Sony were present, unlikely ever to be again after the fiasco with trying to promote seminars on event photography without a real incentive for attendees - they cancelled both dates in the end due to lack of response).
You probably know the lovely Josephine...

Re: Hard Case
That was exactly what I was looking for! I have a Storm case and a Pelican lined up, both with the camera divider system but I just wanted to know how secure these setups were and what kind of experience there has been as far as the airlines dealing with these. For work I have hundreds of these cases but putting your own personal investment into them changes the way you look at themjonathanh wrote:Hi,

Re: Hard Case
IMRO Zero Haliburton makes the best aluminum cases. Storm cases, made by hardig are the best plastic cases. They are superior to Pelican which has more choices in size ... the gap is closing as Pelican is also now owned by Hardig. The "pick in pluck" foam for all of them is not very good. Better to get solid sheets of foam and cut it out yourself. I've traveled a bit with an Eklite housing and flash with a sony camera to take underwater pictures, packed in a Storm case and never had an issue.

Re: Hard Case
Any chance of getting some pictures of either your cases for reference?
