Is this A1000 appearing on dyxum.com? Have a look!

Unread post by alphaomega »

Found this thread on dyxum.com through an entry on DPReview.com
Future Sony cameras
by nocanon. Maybe he chose "nocanon" as he did not want to offend a good Sony customer named Nikon.

Sounds to me like our old friend A1000 who caused a stir here some time ago. Look forward to an avalance of Sony EVIL cameras and no A700 replacement if the newbie poster is right. Any opinions on this?

Already got himself/herself locked threads on Dyxum (not easy to get that!) and it is all a conflation of speculation, some rumours, some fantasy.

It's not as if the internet doesn't easily generate this type of poster from time to time. Sure it smacks of Tom, and maybe he's just getting warmed up to Dyxum, but I thought his speculations on photoclubalpha were further out there than these.

He/she had 2 threads there. I saw that in the morning, same style, same mistakes, same grammatical errors...
Anyway, that's his/her problem. 8)

Isn't there a press release somewhere from Sony, stating that there was no live view in the a850 -- because (1) its an entry level feature that would take more time to develop, and (2) they wanted the replacement for A700 on the street!

I took it to mean the a850 is the replacement for a700.

Frankly, there is no way that the A850 can be considered a replacement for the A700. That may or may not be what Sony thought but I for one would not consider upgrading from my A700 to the A850. FF is a different world with regards to weight of the camera and more importantly the lenses. And that is apart from the sheer cost of purchasing FF lenses if you have a cluster of APS-C lenses. Can/Nik are not thinking along these lines or there would not be a D300s or 7D.

In fact, I am still struggling to figure out why the A850 even appeared. I can see no reason why anyone would buy that camera when the A900 price is nearly as low. They are far too close in spec. I would have thought that Sony should either have expended their energy and money on an upgrade to the A700 incorporating all Barry Fitzgerald's ideas and using the new high ISO sensor in the A550 or addressed some of the A900 problems such as high ISO noise and provided a usable LV for macro and other still/tripod photography. They could also have accelerated their supply of specialist lenses. With the A900 potential for architectural photography one would have thought that a 28mm T&S lens would be an obvious. Minolta had a design that could possibly have been used as a base for further development. In my humble opinion Sony have not been quick enough to provide lenses to enhance the sales potential of the A900.

You can use the APS-C lenses with the a850. It has a setting for just that.

At this stage the Sony line up looks really strange, they have 5 models between AU$899-$1999 then the A850 comes in at $3499 (body only)and A900(body only) at $4999+ (here in Australia). At $1999.00 you get a A550 twin lenses kit. The A850 might be a good by at US$1999 but the best street price here is AU$2999 (that's around US$2699 at today's exchange rate), Sony still list the A700 in between the A550 and A850 but there is very little stock around and would anyone pay AU$1900+ for a a700+18-50mm kit lens?

There needs to be some sort of model between the A550 and A850, Even just a A700 with the new 14MP sensor and updated software would be better than nothing?

The a700 gives you a weather-resistant mag-alloy body, two control wheels, dedicated AF assist light, Quick-Navi interface, a PC sync, 1/8000 sec. maximum shutter speed, double-cross center AF point with F/2.8 sensor, and an actual optical pentaprism for just $750 these days. The next model that offers any of that is the $2000 a850. If this package were hitting the market today, we'd all be applauding Sony for changing the face of the DSLR market with such a superior entry-level camera.
