That's a good question. Based on what you can buy in stores here in Peru, Canon is way out in front, Nikon is 2nd, and Sony is a distant 3rd in interchangeable lens cameras. However, when you just consider mirrorless only, the race is closer with Sony and Panasonic at the top. Once again, this is only based on what I've seen in stores and not on any sales data.

That being said, it's gotta start somewhere and if Sony can remain ahead of Nikon in the States, then hopefully that will spill over into the global market.

Your possibly right, but Canon will be the toughest hurdle both US and global to cross. Stores are good indicators of trends, Panasonic is a big seller because of its high reputation as a great movie camera. Makes you wonder where Pentax are on the global scale of things, would be interesting to see.

Keep in mind that the US represent less than 30% Camera global market -and the article talk only about FF bodies... The day Sony overtakes Nikon in Japan (more than 40% Camera global sales) we can start talking about a milestone.

I was specially surprised that there are no "official camera service" for Sony in Lima (a real-good-one I mean) even if distribution is official and you can find several models at Hiraoka by example (they used to offer service for the products they import) and Sony website for Peru offer many bodies, but not that many lenses or accessories... The market is definitely small and people's perception is that is better to ask someone travelling to the USA or Europe to buy the equipment there because is cheaper (actually, I checked the prices, and the difference is really small, specially if you consider that the manufacturer warranty won't probably work for equipment bought overseas)

I think Sony start convincing people to switch (or at least give them a try) since they implemented their Pro support in the USA (https://esupport.sony.com/info/1523/US/EN)

Pako, at the Sony Store on Primavera there's a representative from an electronics repair shop that is authorized by Sony. They just fixed a couple of problems I had with my a77m2 and the price was reasonable.

But back on subject, yes the article did specifically mention only FF models. But it's a start. The very fact that in FF cameras they've surpassed Nikon in the US recently is amazing to me. I don't care if Sony is #1 in sales or not, but it's good to have signs like this that seem to show Sony's alive.
